The Volunteered Slaves are preparing their fifth album, SpaceShipOne, scheduled for September 2021. For this album, their jazz is colored with electro, afrobeat and funk. A first extract, Astronaef, has just been revealed, which ensures an immediate takeoff. For their new opus SpaceShipOne, The Volunteered Slaves no longer aim at the sky but at space. The music, always organic, is loaded with electro. The poetry is there, between lyricism and trance. Libertarians, the Volunteered Slavs make music that makes us captive. The band entered the recording booth in March 2020, for a launch of the album SpaceShipOne in early September 2021. For nearly 15 years, the gifted combo The Volunteered Slaves has been taking us on its incandescent cocktail of jazz, funk, pop and afro music. The illuminated collective of protean jazz dips its groove in hip hop and electro on a jubilant fifth album scheduled for the end of the summer. The band, which takes its name from a Roland Kirk theme Volunteered slavery, takes us once again on a staggering and soaring sonic journey.
Perfectly crafted orchestrations, dizzying funk rhythms, militant poetry and original tracks at the top. A group to recommend to fans of Kamasi Washington or John Coltrane. It must be said that this group is unlike any other in France. From the start, they decided not to decide anything and improvise music above genres and chapels. Jazz, funk or afro, no one knows where they live but they instantly make you want to live there too. About them, Sylvain Siclier of the newspaper Le Monde speaks of "one of the most exciting formations of the moment… who, rather than listening to himself think, plays for the body to respond to him, and revives the ultimate burst of jazz, that of osmosis with funk".
