The third season of the adventures of the most famous speedster, The Flash, has just ended on the CW. Our review.
We have known for a few episodes that Barry The Flash Allen's great enemy, Savitar, is none other than a version of himself, devastated by the death of Iris (Candice Patton) and convinced to be the God of speed. This third season, which has just ended with the episode Finish Line, was there to make our hero aware of his mistakes. And we must recognize that since the Flashpoint, Barry has accumulated them!
One hero can hide another
But it is not him that we will remember the most in this season. No, the one who saved the day this time is H.A. Indeed, deeply hurt by the kidnapping of Iris, for which he holds himself responsible, he took the lead and decided to take her place. Yes you read correctly, it is not Iris who succumbs under the blade of Savitar but indeed H.R, who used a device to change his appearance. A surprising twist but which proves that each season, the writers have a different plan for actor Tom Cavannagh. H.R had managed in a single season to become the enchanted bubble of the series, its quirky side and humor hitting the mark. His recent meeting with Tracy (Anne Dudek) promised beautiful things in the future. And yet… We know that the actor will be back in the next season, should we still hope to meet another Harrison Wells?
If Iris does not die, Savitar cannot exist. But that's without counting on his ingenuity. He decides to break his soul into thousands of pieces in order to exist at every moment. He needs our dear Cisco (Carlos Valdes) and especially Caitlin/Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker). A very thoughtful plan on the part of this super villain that will cause a lot of damage. But Cisco's courage and strength, helped by Gypsy (Jessica Camacho) will allow him both to awaken the Caitlin who was still sleeping in Killer Frost but also to free Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp), prisoner of the Swift Force since the middle of the season. A real feat on the part of the young man who decidedly takes more and more importance over the seasons.
The ultimate sacrifice
And when we believe that the situation is finally saved (thank you Iris by the way, Candice Patton delivering an excellent performance), it is not. Yes Jay Garrick is saved from the speedforce but there is a void to fill. And it's Barry himself who decides it's time to sacrifice himself once and for all by letting himself be locked up for good. This is the occasion for a heartbreaking farewell scene with all the characters. Barry decides to pay for his mistakes. But as we know, the show is renewed for a fourth season and it will be necessary that it is released for new adventures! Unless the writers dig into the comics to deliver us a 2.0 version of Barry Allen, a man who learned from his mistakes?
In conclusion, despite a slightly sluggish season at times and a rather disappointing Flashpoint, The Flash ends its third season on a positive note. Action and emotion are at the rendezvous for our greatest pleasure. The references to the comics are numerous and we feel that the writers have understood their past mistakes. Let's wish the series a return to apotheosis next year, for a season that will not see a speedster as a big bad but the enigmatic DeVoe …
