On May 5, the second season of Sense8, a series that began two years ago, was released on the world-famous platform, Netflix. Two long years of waiting that were still compensated by this two-hour Christmas episode , but which, to our surprise, was worth it more than we had ever imagined. The Wachowski duo at the origin of the series signs us a second season that made us take off our eyebrows of astonishment and surprise. Spoiler-free review.
No more detours
Season 1 over, the Christmas episode having shown us what our eight protagonists were capable of, this season 2 continues to amaze us. We have never dreamed so much of sharing our mind with seven other people to be able to act in such a complete symbiosis. The storyline has finished the circle of 8, and decides to widen the field of possibilities. We discover new characters, new possibilities that dazzle us. And in view of the unfolding events in this season, our characters spread across the eight corners of the globe have not finished impressing us.
Some apparent weaknesses
Obviously among this flow of perfection, it was impossible not to find some small flaws. And it is the redundancy of certain elements that we will feel in this season. Now that the characters can rely on each other, the life lessons will repeat themselves. As soon as one of them has a problem, another is there to remind him that there is worse elsewhere. And in itself, it wouldn't have been a problem if there had been some kind of optimistic reasoning, but with the Wachowskis' "difficult personal problem" atmosphere, it's not that simple. We often find ourselves facing a colorful world with scenes of celebrations as we rarely have in a lifetime, gatherings with an astronomical amount of people, but finally to deliver us a message that corresponds to an extreme loneliness for most of the characters. The yo-yo effect then sometimes becomes too remarkable during the season.
The always successful realization
Now that the scenario is done with setting up the characters and the universe, the serious things could begin, and the same is true for the realization. It is extremely ambitious to travel to so many different countries for a series, and especially to match all the elements together while the characters are in two different places. But it is a remarkably successful bet. Even the action scenes become fascinating by these incessant alternations of characters on screen. And obviously, all these elements keep an unparalleled fluidity. The actors continue to make us shiver by their presence on screen, and none is put back from the others. We knew this desire for meticulous staging with The Matrix, which the brothers, Wachowski had done with a masterful hand. Sense8 proves to us that, now, they have lost nothing.
Lana Wachowski decides to address themes that are slowly emerging in our current society, and which, for some people, are absolutely not unanimous, such as homosexuality or transexuality. Despite everything, she manages to make us vibrate among the many intense and touching scenes of the series that absorb us with these endearing and sometimes even extremely badass characters. This season 2 is a huge success, and it is impossible to imagine two more years to wait for a season 3.
