The Main Square Festival 2016, let's go! The first artists ignited the different stages on the opening day.
It's uuuuun day… I start by quoting my fellow northerner Louane, to start this article on the Main Square Festival, which is THE festival that moves the Hauts-de-France. And in terms of music, this 2016 edition is rather well served!
On Friday, July 1st, as thousands of Belgians swept over the region, music-loving northerners gathered en masse on the Citadel of Arras. Even the rain, the wind and the inches of mud did not manage to demoralize the musicians of Main Square.
Main Square 2016: a fanfare opening
It was first Jake Bugg who opened this 2016 edition, with a nice selection of his flagship titles, as well as some covers that delighted his fans. True to his reputation as a rebellious rocker, it was with a beer in his hand that he left the stage, greeting the audience in the process.
The other star of this first day of MSF was another Englishwoman, Ellie Goulding. The artist, who seemed a little less playful than on other lives, still delivered a beautiful performance.But it is especially the strength of the repertoire of the British that we will have noticed this Friday: Love Me Like You Do, I Need Your Love, Goodness Gracious or Burn have strongly contributed to animate this show. We regret not having seen Ellie Goulding as delighted as her fans, yet present in large numbers.
What's next? Even more explosive! Because the real headliners of this day were the sure values of music. First, Louise Attacks. Gaetan Roussel's group rumbled contributed to the organized ransacking of the citadel's ground, as the audience did not stop moving to the sound of the group's hits. And that's understandable! How to resist the unifying tunes of Your invitation or the unforgettable Parisian Nights!
Then, it was a rock legend who graciously agreed to come and play at Main Square: the reptilian Iggy Pop. Having nothing to envy to the new wave of British rockers, the leader of the Stooges has once again proved that when it comes to rock, age is definitely just a number. Chaining his greatest hits (I want to be your dog, Passenger,…) and the most beautiful insults of his collection, Iggy Pop has definitely marked this 2016 edition of Main Square.
