What is an acoustic panel?
What is it used for?
An acoustic panel is a product that improves sound comfort in a room. To do this, it absorbs sound waves. This allows him to avoid feeling a hubbub effect in a room.
Such a product therefore has no interest in isolating its room from external noise. It will be used to reduce the background noise often heard in places with the public. Thus, in nurseries or restaurants, we have all been affected by this type of problem.
What does it look like?
An acoustic panel comes in a square, round or rectangular shape. He may be on his feet. However, very often, it will be installed on the wall or ceiling.
It can be covered with a printing fabric or a fabric in a solid color. It can therefore leave room for your imagination by personalizing itself.
From an internal point of view, a panel incorporates an insulating material. Not all are equal from an ecological point of view. We will come back to this at the end of this article.

Why are acoustic panels important for musicians and movie buffs?
In the first part, we saw that acoustic panels are important in places open to the public such as bars, open spaces or restaurants. However, these products are also essential for musicians and people with private cinemas.
To be more precise, acoustic solutions will allow:
- Optimize restitution
- To promote immersion
Optimize restitution
In an auditorium or a private cinema, it is very important to have good viewing conditions. Indeed, it is legitimate to want to listen to your movies or music in the best possible conditions.
Audiophiles and movie buffs are well aware of the importance of this parameter. Everyone feels the difference when their room is treated with acoustic products and when it is not.
In a recording studio, it is very important to be able to capture the most faithful sounds possible. Again, acoustic treatment will play a crucial role.
To promote immersion
If we try to optimize the restitution, it is to promote immersion in his favorite films and music.
For this, it is necessary to obtain a reverberation time close to 0.6 seconds on a good part of the frequency spectrum. Similarly, we must maintain a certain momentum. In this sense, acoustic diffusers are interesting products.
What about ecology for acoustic panels?
Unfortunately, like many products on the construction market, most acoustic panels are not designed to be very virtuous from an ecological point of view.
Indeed, it is very common for these products to use highly processed and/or petroleum-based materials. In this sense, many acoustic products use mineral wool or PET insulation. Also be aware that mineral wools have been classified as a "probable carcinogen".
To fill these market gaps, a French company has developed unique products that differentiate themselves from this point of view. PYT Audio has released a range of acoustic panels called "MUTUM". The latter is composed of materials:
- Natural
- From short circuits
- Recycled and recyclable many times
- From the social and solidarity economy
The start-up designs and manufactures its solutions in France, in the Pays de la Loire. In particular, she uses cotton wool and cardboard in her panels.
