Venom 5 1 Why isn't Carnage the villain in the new Venom movie?

We warned you!

As the title of this article (subtly) indicated, the famous Carnage was not the villain in the new Venom movie. Considered in the comics as an "offspring" of the latter, Carnage is initially the serial killer Kletus Kasady, with whom part of the symbiote has associated. This character being very popular with comic book readers, they hoped to see him appear at one time or another to face Eddy Brock in a titanic fight. Spoiler: this is not the case.

However, these same fans have enough to make their mouths water for the sequel, since Kasady appeared in the post-credits scene, as the charismatic Woody Harrelson. If this casting choice may seem singular (Kasady being very young in the comics), Harrelson remains an excellent actor and we can only be intrigued by his future performance in this role. But since fans were waiting for Carnage so much, why not have him intervene from this first opus as the main enemy? Answer from director Ruben Fleischer, interviewed by the American site Collider :

Carnage is the character I think fans, and everyone wants to see the most, in the Venomworld, but we didn't want to spoil it on the first movie. The first movie is all about Eddie and Venom, and their relationship, and establishing the character. Then from there, it felt like we wanted to give them a place to go. So, choosing their most formidable adversary felt like a great, natural sequel."

Venom 2 Why isn't Carnage the villain in the new Venom movie?

"Carnage is, in my opinion, the character fans (and everyone) most want to see in the world of Venom. But we didn't want to spoil it. The first film is about Eddie and Venom, as well as their relationship and the establishment of the character. Then, from there, we wanted to give them a place to go. Thus, choosing their most formidable opponent was a great natural continuation. "

If this absence may seem frustrating at first, it is clear that it is a wise choice that was made by the Venom team. So let's hope that by this decision, we will make the most of Carnage and its confrontation with Venom in the next game. And who knows? Maybe this sequel won't be stamped PG-13 (let's dream a little…).

However, let's not project ourselves too quickly! Let's already enjoy the Venom which arrives in our theaters this Wednesday, October 10. At JustFocus, we rather enjoyed the viewing, although the film is riddled with some pretty obvious flaws. Discover our review before rushing into the dark rooms!
