Following an inexplicable and supernatural phenomenon, some people burn themselves in flames and attack humanity. To deal with this danger, brigades were set up: the Fire Brigade of Flames. Shinra Kusakabe, who has somewhat special skills, is about to join the eighth brigade!
"Old age… suicide… illness… There are various causes of death. But this one, which could be classified in the category of diseases… is nowadays the most feared by most people. It is about … Death by fire."

Fire Force plunges us into a universe where humans fear the phenomenon of human combustion. Indeed, due to a mysterious cause, humans go up in flames and no longer answer for themselves. Special brigades were later created to appease the souls of humans affected by this evil and thus prevent human torches from causing too much damage. We follow our main character, Shinra Kusakabe, in his first days as a 2nd class in the 8th Fire Force brigade.
Regarding the scenario, it is very well brought and the reader is not completely lost about the strange phenomena that occur there. We discover a Tokyo in the grip of a plague affecting anyone at any time. And I must admit that the story immediately interested me. From the first pages of this first volume, I was fascinated by this story and I could not pick up. I had to know at all costs what was going to happen, and why it had to happen.
In addition to this burning story, the reader is also immersed in Shinra's past, which is not the most common and peaceful. Indeed, nicknamed the demon from an early age because of a fire that killed his mother and brother, Shinra wants at all costs to become a Hero in order to protect everyone, and make others forget his nickname of demon. But the task will not be easy since a mysterious impostor will appear. What does he really want from Shinra and the 8th Brigade?
Ohkubo Atsushi's pencil stroke

Now let's move on to the graphics. I find the characters very well drawn, and very easily recognizable. In addition, we can distinguish quite easily the expressions on their faces which gives an even more touching dimension during the different actions. We can also recognize their different emotions, such as anger, excitement or sadness. We recognize here the pencil stroke of the author of Soul Eater! The actions, and especially the flames are also well represented which allows the reader to immerse himself even more in the story, and for my part, to imagine our characters fighting human torches.
In the beginning of the first volume, you can also admire the décor of the station which is filled with very well drawn details. All these small details allow readers to dwell longer on the mangaka's drawings and thus soak up a little more of the atmosphere in which our fire heroes evolve. The fire station is also designed with great detail which makes it even more beautiful and imposing.
Members of the 8th Brigade

Finally, I will now address the main characters of the series. The brigade is composed of 6 members:
- Akibaru Obi, the captain, who has no powers.
- Maki Oze, first class in the Fire Force, second-generation power holder, former military.
- Iris, a good sister with no power.
- Takehisa Hinawa, the commander, second-generation power holder, former soldier.
- Shinra Kusakabe, second class of the Fire Force, third-generation power holder, nicknamed the Demon.
- Arthur Boyle, second class of the Fire Force, third-generation power holder, nicknamed the King of Knights.
We have the pleasure of discovering all these characters and their different powers and weapons as the pages progress, which is very interesting since each one brings something to the story.
To conclude, Fire Force is a very nice discovery that I recommend. This first volume is full of action, twists and turns, and I can't wait to discover the rest of the adventures of the 8th brigade and know if Shinra will manage to get rid of his nickname of demon for that of Hero!
