We can say it, even with this pandemic and the closure of cinemas for a few months, we have had very big films in this year 2021. I'm not going to quote them to you, you probably have a few in mind. But now, let's see what 2022 has in store for us in our beautiful rooms. Here are the 15 most anticipated films of this year.
Nightmare Alley
We are in the 40s in New York. Stanton Carlisle, played by Bradley Cooper, learns with the help of a couple, at a fair, the practice of clairvoyance and mentalism. He decides to use his new skills to rip off the New York elite. But he will lose himself at his own game when he comes across people more cunning and dangerous than him by attacking the richest man in New York.
With a cast not the least, Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett and Willem Dafoe, Nightmare Alley will take us to New York, where fraud reigns supreme. It is from January 19 that you will be able to discover this film.
Uncharted
Based on the eponymous video game series, Uncharted tells the story of the duo formed by Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) and Victor "Sully" Sullyvan (Mark Wahlberg). Together, they go in search of the "greatest treasure in the world". We will then follow their adventures, resembling a hunt for clues with another objective: to find Nathan's missing brother.
After his great success, Tom Holland quickly returns to the cinema with this new action film. It is on February 16 that you will be able to find them in cinemas.
The Batman
A new actor, a new Batman. Robert Pattinson takes over the legendary role, succeeding Christian Bale and Ben Affleck. The character embodies his role of vigilante for 2 years already. A killer attacking the elite of Gotham City will lead Bruce Wayne to unmask this man. On his way, he will meet enemies, but also allies like Catwoman, played by Zoë Kravitz.
A new saga is then launched for our vigilante of the night, with a visually very dark film. When justice is challenged in Gotham, Batman will do his best to restore it. Note the date, we meet from March 2 for our hero.
Notre Dame Brûle
The film will plunge us into the heart of the drama of April 15, 2019, when Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was engulfed in flames and men and women put their lives at risk to save others.
A poignant film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, which will touch all French as this tragedy has marked the history of the monument. See you on March 16 in your cinemas.
Ambulance
Jake Gyllenhaal resurfaces on the big screen with the movie Ambulance. Former veteran Will Sharp (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) needs help finding money to pay for his wife's medical bills. He then turns to his adopted brother, Danny (Jake Gyllenhaal), who is a former criminal. The latter then offers him a robbery never organized, bringing in $ 32 million. A chase then ensues for the two acolytes, which could well lead to their downfall.
We will hold our breath for the duration of the adaptation of the Danish film, Ambulancen by Laurits Munch-Petersen, released in 2005! I look forward to seeing you on March 23 in theaters for an unprecedented robbery.
Morbius
New character of the Marvel universe, Sony presents Morbius. In an atmosphere of terror, this new film introduces us to Dr. Morbius, suffering from a rare blood disease. Attempting an experiment on himself to heal himself, our character will suffer side effects that will turn him into something unexpected.
Played by Jared Leto, Morbius will plunge us into the dark side, still too little exploited of the Marvel universe. Produced by Sony, such as Spiderman and Venom, it may be that old characters will also make their returns. Note, March 30 for a new facet of the Marvel Universe.
Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore's Secrets
Remember, in the last movie Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, we had the revelation that Credence Barebone was a Dumbledore. A secret that will have its importance in Grindelwald's quest for power. We will meet Norbert Dragonneau (Eddie Redmayne) accompanied by his loved ones to discover more about this approaching war.
The film will essentially revolve around the story of Dumbledore (Jude Law) with, to the delight of fans, scenes at the Hogwarts School of Magic. So let yourself be carried away by the magical universe from April 13th.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
After the dazzling success of the last Spiderman in theaters, it will be up to Doctor Strange to make up for all the damage accumulated as his adventures progress. It is from Wanda Maximoff, the red witch, that Steven will come to seek help.
A film that will plunge us into the dark side of our wizard. This sequel could completely change the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as we have known it. Anything can happen, and no one is safe from Doctor Strange. It is also Sam Raimi, the director of the first three Spiderman, who makes his comeback in the MCU. May 4 in French cinemas.
Top Gun: Maverick
This is the return of Tom Cruise in one of his greatest roles: Maverick. Our Navy fighter pilot returns to train young graduates of the Top Gun school for a mission never seen before. Between ghosts of the past and sacrifices, Maverick will have to go to the end of his limits for this mission.
With his stunts performed by himself, obviously, Tom Cruise intends to impress us for his return in one of his greatest roles. Note the date of May 25 to return to the air once again with Maverick.
Jurassic World: The World After
They are back, but this time, it is not in a park that we will find them. Jurassic World 3 will bring dinosaurs into our society. It will be possible to cross them in front of your home, which will pose a very big problem for the survival of some species.
We will then see the cohabitation with a species that had disappeared for millennia, and our current society. A shift that will be in theaters for the spring, June 10.
Buzz Lightyear
For the first time, a toy from Toy Story, the animated film, has its film made in computer graphics. Played by Chris Evans, Buzz Lightyear will take us into the story of his youth, before having known Andy as well as Woody and his companions. Be careful with your toys, as early as June 22 they could come to life.
Thor: Love and Thunder
We have few clues for this new plot with Chris Hemsworth. However, we already know that Natalie Portman will be present and will become… Thor ! The girlfriend of the god of thunder may well seem to become worthy to carry the weapon that gives his powers to our hero.
Let's also remember that at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Thor leaves with the Guardians of the Galaxy in their ship. The latter will therefore be in the film alongside the Asgardian. See you from July 13 at the cinema!
Mission Impossible 7
It is still him, Tom Cruise will return in another of his mythical roles: Ethan Hunt, the spy. Here is the 7th part of the saga. We still know very little at the moment, the release is scheduled for September 28 in our theaters. It will be the continuation of the adventures of our spy, which began in 1996.
An eighth part is already in preparation. We're not done hearing about Ethan Hunt.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Marvel spoils us this year! The second installment of one of the MCU's biggest hits returns. But it is unfortunately without Chadwick Boseman, playing T'Challah, who died on August 28, 2020, that this sequel will see the light of day. This new part should therefore focus on the story of Shuri, the very intelligent little sister of the hero.
We also know that THE antagonists she will face are none other than Namor, the king of the seas, and Attuma. Formidable opponents, reversals of situations will be expected for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. November 9 in your cinemas.
Avatar II
To end the year well, James Cameron decided to take over one of his greatest: Avatar. Picking up 10 years after the end of the first opus, the film will take us back to Pandora, where the earth is threatened by the Resources Development Administration. Now parents, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) will have to protect their family at all costs.
You may already know this, but James Cameron has also announced that three more films will follow in 2024, 2026 and 2028. The Avatar gear is launched again and we are not at the end of our surprises. December 14 in theaters.
