It's official, Doctor Strange will have the right to his second opus with, of course, Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role.
It is obviously Kevin Feige, president of the House of Ideas, who took advantage of the promotion of Ant-Man and the Wasp to confirm the return of the most famous magician of Marvel. Before going into a little more detail, be warned: this article may contain some small spoilers and other indications as to the history and fate of the characters of Avengers Infinity War as well as the first part of Doctor Strange.
This announcement comes just a week after the revelation of the title of the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming , which will be instituted: Spider-Man: Far From Home. Between fan theories about the fate of the characters at the end of Infinity War and official announcements, the revelations arrive in dribs and drabs, and remain overall evasive enough not to spoil the suspense of Avengers third of the name.
Some actors are coming to the end of their contract, especially after Avengers 4 whose title has still not been officially revealed, others are in renegotiation but it is certain that Marvel can not abandon one of its new flagship characters of the MCU after only one feature film. Especially when you already know the main antagonist in the person of Baron Mordo, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor. The fate of Doctor Strange and Spider-Man are already sealed, and the rest of their adventures will take place during phase 4 of the MCU knowing that the fourth part of the Avengers will conclude phase 3. What is certain is that details about the future of the Marvel superhero expanded universe should pour in after this conclusion which will be held in April 2019.
Doctor Strange 2 should be released by 2020, after Spider-Man: Far From Home (scheduled for July 2019) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 (scheduled for May 2020) with probably Scott Derrickson back behind the camera. In the meantime, the next appointment of the MCU is on July 18 with Ant-Man and the Wasp.
