g [Review] "Regain": Gaël Faure's irresistible new album

Regain, the singer's renaissance album

Four years after the release of his first opus Des Silences en Bascules, the 30-year-old singer returns with a resolutely folk album. Regain is the regrowth of grass after the first cut. It is reborn greener, more tender and even more beautiful. This is also the name cleverly chosen for this album. A title that echoes the nature he appreciates so much, and his roots that he claims. This Ardèche son of a farmer, had for destiny the profession of landscape architect before participating in 2005, in the famous tele-hook Nouvelle Star, on M6.

It is now through 13 proposed titles, mixing his captivating voice with texts often harmonized around the natural and agricultural environment, that Gaël Faure reveals himself. An album that is the result of a collaboration between the director Renaud Létang (Björk, Alain Souchon), the musicians Vincent Brulin and Emiliano Turi, and himself. Through the latter, he reveals a folk both organic and synthetic adorned with modernism leading us from the earth to the moon.

His songs tell the story of nature that he has always been around and that he continues to defend. He is involved with the eco-citizen movement Colibris alongside Pierre Rabhi, who also gave birth to a song of the same name. His album is carried in June 2017, by the title La saison, which is "a beautiful story of humanity" that he wanted to share. Indeed, it is a tribute to the Tamang people living in the Himalayan highlands in Nepal without running water or means of communication. The singer is touched by the chief who, for a season, leaves his family village to sell goods to the city.

In his clip directed by Marion Castera and Kelzang Ravach, it is the urgency through water shortages that is marked. An effective song that manages to seduce.

A successful pairing between haunting sounds and poetry

Gaël Faure also transports us with his second single Éreinté. A catchy melody tinged with melancholy, supported by a text evoking the arduousness of back pain at work. This title with 80 influences, suggests a certain musical eclecticism with which the album is endowed. He reveals his Character in a subtle and clever way that colors us with cheerfulness.

In Lonely Hour he shares the title with the haunting Piers Faccini, and commits to the English words that get you high. Gaël Faure brings back innocence and childish truth through Official Faces , whose voice vaguely reminds us of that of Arthur, the singer of Fire! Insulating tape. It offers the hypnotic and sensual Curves and Laces, which quickly adopted the favorite song costume.

Clean and organic sounds resonate in Only Wolves, which the singer harmonizes with English lyrics also written by Piers Faccini. An incantation of lace, which picks us during this moment suspended in time. Although the common thread stitches this album with logic, each song disguises itself differently, delivering a palette of sounds and a work on the unique voice. Indeed, the latter is highlighted remarkably, adding a purity and a part of truth that rings true.

Only Wolves live

In this new coherent album with fine poetry, Gaël Faure makes the wood and strings resonate with sobriety and generosity. He makes his sweet folk impregnated with modernism travel through a successful album, managing to give meaning and values to what surrounds us. In addition, the singer will travel the roads of France to "send love and emotion" during his concerts as he confided to our colleagues of France 5. He will settle down on March 21, 2018 in Paris at the Café de la Danse, then in festivals next summer.
