The announcement
The information comes straight from the Twitter account of Kerry Washington aka the famous Olivia Pope. She shared a photo of herself taken in the HTGAWM series courthouse, accompanied by a cryptic tweet.
Some time later, it was Viola Davis ' turn to post a photograph in a setting from the Scandal series.
And finally, it is the turn of Shonda Rhimes to confirm our suspicions by revealing a piece of the scenario where the two women will meet for the first time.

ABC's statement did not specify the broadcast date of this cross-over. However, we now know that it will take place on a TGIT evening. The part of the crossover on Scandal was written by Raamla Mohamed and directed by Tony Goldwyn (Fitz) while that of HTGAWM was written by Morenike Balogun and Sarah L. Thompson, and directed by Zetna Fuentes.
This cross-over is the first since the creation of TGIT if we put aside the communications between Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, its spin-off series.
The next episodes of Grey's Anatomy, HTGAWM and Scandal will return to ABC from January 18.
