In January, a new horror title took place in the catalog of Soleil Manga, Abyss!

    Abyss

abyss-manga-volume-1-simple-240954  Author: Ryuhaku Nagata Publisher: Soleil Manga Release date: 27/01/2016 Number of volumes: 5 volumes in Japan, current series Price: 6,99   Synopsis: A group of individuals wake up in a strange underground with very few memories of their old lives. In their hand, a switch called a "trigger" that gives them each access to a special power. They will then have to cooperate with each other in order to find the exit, and above all, escape the monstrous creatures, the "Hitman", who roam the corridors with the firm intention of killing them all.

    Awakening in the bloody Abyss…

As many individuals Hibiki Dan wakes up in the Abyss, a kind of abandoned industrial complex. The only things in his possession are his clothes and a small device called trigger. After a few moments of searching, he will manage to get in touch with humans, but also a strange hostile creature with a strange appearance, which he will name Eatman. Helped by notes from one of their predecessors, they will learn more about where they are, but also about the Eatmans and the famous triggers. The latter are devices that allow them to obtain a particular ability. All different, they have their strengths (telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation, etc.) but also their limitations. Thanks to the triggers and their teamwork, they will try to defeat the Eatman and get out of this labyrinth of death. Here, calm, observation and ingenuity are in order, because they will not have a second chance. The events follow one another but are not alike, thanks to the environment and especially to the bestiary that Ryuhaku Nagata sets up. Individuality will pay dearly, and if fear does not serve as fuel for solutions, it will be fatal. Abyss 1

While we could have expected a survival-game or a horror title present only to give us our dose of hemoglobin, Abyss offers us an original adventure, full of twists and turns. The conclusions of the human/Eatman encounters are sometimes a little too far-fetched, but we keep a certain pleasure thanks to the rhythm of the narration that remains without dead time and the amazing endings. Nevertheless, I can't help but be afraid that this series will get bogged down in a certain routine. The next volumes will have an interest in knowing how to keep us in suspense to make this series a good investment.

Special mention to Soleil Manga editions for the magnificent dust jacket in relief both front and back.
