A record for Disney+: More than 100 million paying subscribers in 16 months

This is an important milestone for the Walt Disney Company. The Disney+ platform has surpassed the 100 million subscriber mark since its launch. That is, in just 16 months. As a reminder, the company Netflix, founded in 1997 launched into streaming in 2007. Today, it has more than 200 million paying subscribers. That is in 14 years. This makes the success of the Disney+ platform even more impressive.

Disney + classic and original content

During the company's annual shareholder meeting, Bob Chapek, President and CEO, spoke. "The huge success of Disney+ inspires us to be more ambitious and significantly increase our investment in high-quality content." The platform, launched on November 12, 2019, lists all the content of the companies and subsidiaries that the company has acquired. The platform is dedicated to providing high-quality content for all ages. Moving from series to documentaries, there's content for everyone and virtually every interest. Among the subsidiaries acquired by Disney, the public can find the content of Pixar or Lucasfilms. True to its organizational sense, the platform separates content based on the age of the audience and subsidiaries. We can therefore find under the Star category, content aimed at a more mature audience, such as Grey's Anatomy. As well as under the Marvel hat, the public will be able to find the films and series revolving around the universe of the Avengers and other superheroes. And allowing subscribers to access existing content is not the only idea of the platform. "We have a goal to create 100+ new titles per year across Disney Animation, Marvel, Star Wars National Geographic and more," says Chapek. With this ambitious program, viewers will have plenty to occupy their time. Available in 59 countries, the platform offers an incredible portfolio of content from the Disney Group studios.
