The young French Broken Back was on January 22, 2016 at the Maroquinerie to make us (re) discover his musical universe. BrokenBackPG1 For three years, Broken Back aka Jérôme, coming straight from St Malo, makes us dream with his electro-folk ballads reminiscent of the sounds of Milky Chance. We let ourselves be lulled by the heady and light melodies of this modern troubadour who gives us in his first EP Dear, Misfortune, Mother of Joy, a glimpse of his sweet and fresh universe. With his recognizable voice, Broken Back delivers us a mix of house beats under his folk guitar, for an aerial electro. It is first the young singer Jacinthe who opens the ball Friday, January 22. Armed with a guitar and a drum machine, Jacinthe pours out sunny and melodious titles with her warm voice, navigating between English and French, between committed texts and clear titles, for a delicious session.

On track for a promising concert

BrokenBackPG2 After a first part that warmed up the crowd in the small room of the Maroquinerie, it is time for Broken Back to vibrate an overexcited audience that is already starting to tremble with impatience. A few guitar notes and the show begins with fanfare. Gypsy notes shake the singer's first two songs, accompanied by a zealous drummer effectively completing the rhythm guitar. For the third track, Mild Blood, we feel a hint of fragility in Jerome's voice, thus affecting the audience of women in the front row. The show lives up to our expectations: full of enthusiasm, Broken Back puts at ease the Leather Goods, which is guided by electro-folk melodies, like Say, a title he dedicates to his parents, present in the room. This ballad begins with a guitar solo that gradually expands thanks to the strong voice of Jérôme, who does not hesitate to rise in the treble, in a sensitivity to the skin. Scratchy, sometimes whispered, Broken Back's voice stands out from everything you've ever heard. It is this originality that allows him to win the receptivity of the public.Cover of a song they say they love, Broken Back and its drummer continue on Skinny Love, the world-famous title of Bon Iver, (re) popularized by Birdy, and this time, the guitar prevails over this rhythmic version. Then it's Young Souls, a real feel-good song that wins the audience with an undisguised euphoria, to be noted by the ovation that follows and which testifies to the attachment of the public, conquered by the endearing and nice side of the singer, chatting with the spectators as with friends.

Nice surprises as an end page

BrokenBackPG4 Announcing that his friend Klingande is present in the room, Broken Back takes the title of DJ Riva with great benevolence and tenderness. The last title is Happiest man on earth, flagship track of the EP, taken up in chorus by an audience more than conquered. For the encore, Jérôme begins a cover released a few days ago of Britney Spears' cult title, Baby one more time. The lyrics are covered by the crowd who know this pop standard of the late 1990s. In the overheated atmosphere of this end of concert, Broken Back ends in style with Rest in Happiness, a title on which we had discovered the voice so particular of this French singer. BrokenBackPG9

Broken Back: a concert under the sign of emotion

Having distinguished himself from his male competitors to present a panel of sought-after and effective titles and bringing together only a drum set and a guitar on stage, the singer from Saint-Malo has managed to move the audience of the Maroquinerie, alternating between emotion and euphoria.
