The live-action series Star Wars is becoming clearer and it is Jon Favreau himself who has announced the color as to the period that will be treated. This series will focus on the period between the fall of the Empire and the advent of the First Order.

Present on the red carpet of Cannes, the filmmaker Jon Favreau announced at the microphone of Nerdist (American site) that he had set the period of his series 7 years after the battle of Yavin and the destruction of the first Death Star (Star Wars 4 – A New Hope). The plot should therefore take place about three years after the battle of Endor depicted in Episode 6

In addition to the announced period, it seems that we are following brand new characters, as well as the transition experienced following the collapse of the Empire. What discover a very interesting background in terms of geopolitical context, because it is still sorely lacking in the episodes of the new Trilogy. With the Empire in disarray and the Sith visibly gone, what intrigues await the heroes of this new story in the making? We just have to wait to find out.

Favreau also said CG animation technology developed for The Jungle Book would be reused here. Let's hope that this one offers the series the special effects it deserves. Let's also hope that it helps to create new fantasy worlds in this galaxy far, far away…

It should be noted that this Star Wars series will not be the only one to be between the sixth and seventh films. Indeed, an animated series entitled Star Wars – Resistance is currently in preparation, under the experienced eye of Dave Filoni (already at work for Star Wars – The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels). It remains to be seen if these series will provide satisfactory explanations to the anemic background of postology, while offering us an adventure worthy of the saga.

It should be noted, however, that if this period will surely be the most exciting to discover, it is a shame that Lucasfilm currently remains confined to this timeline, as if the public was unable to accept that new eras are treated (the Old Republic, the war against the ancient Sith Lords, the genesis of the Jedi…). This will certainly not prevent the series from being great, but a breath of fresh air would surely not hurt the viewers of this saga. Let's hope that the Trilogy Made in Rian Johnson (Star Wars 8) and the one by the showrunners of Game Of Thrones will be able to move away from this period to make us discover new ones.

We just have to wait to discover Jon Favreau's series, which we had already designated as a wise choice on the part of Lucasfilm. And for those who would like to see other periods covered, you can discover our non-exhaustive guide to periods with high potential that can be told in future Star Wars films and series!
