Warner and Scorsese would prepare an origin story for the Joker!

While we are waiting for the upcoming release of Justice League, Warner and DC Comics have just announced their latest project: an origin-story centered on the Joker.

If talking about the genesis of the Joker may seem absurd, we must admit that Jared Leto's screen time (not to mention his "death") in Suicide Squad leaves a bitter taste of dissatisfaction. However, to the extent that Harley Quinn will be entitled to her solo film, it may seem fair and logical. In addition, if many will argue that the Joker does not need background to be terrifying, we must not forget that it has already been done before, including the cult comic Batman: The Killing Joke

At this stage, there is still a lot of uncertainty around the project: Who will play this Joker? Jared Leto himself? Or (as seems to suggest this desire on the part of the studios to create a Joker "separate and different from his previous incarnations"), could it be a new actor? Could this be the end of Leto in the DCEU (DC Extended Universe)? Besides, how will this film fit into this DCEU? So many questions left unanswered for the moment. But… I don't care! Let uncertainty not taint your impatience because the (very) good news does not lie in the announcement of the project but in the team assembled to carry it out.

At the direction, it will be Todd Philips. Known primarily for the Very Bad Trip trilogy or the most recent War Dogs, Philips has specialized in films where action, humor and trash take pride of place. This is already arousing our curiosity.

Screenplay: Scott Silver. Oscar-nominated for The Fighter (David O. Russell, 2011) or screenwriter of 8 Mile (Curtis Hanson, 2003), Silver has a habit of creating strong and tormented characters… And a writer like the Joker: it can be not bad!

And finally, the production would be carried out by none other than… Martin Scorsese! Indeed, Warner has secured the services of the filmmaker to "offer the Joker a universe close to Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, or The king of comedy". Hopefully they add Godfellas or Casino in the mix and it will be a perfect universe for a magnificent Joker.

From now on, only one uncertainty remains of importance: When does it come out? We just have to watch for the next information…
