Great annual mass of North American geeks, the San Diego Comic-Con has again regaled its audience this year. And for good reason, in the middle of all the usual joys (Justice League, Thor, etc.), Warner took the opportunity to unveil the first images of the highly anticipated Ready Player One, new foray of the great Steven Spielberg into the genre that revealed it: SF.

Unveiled in a Hall H inflated block, these first images suggest that the father of E.T perfectly adapted Ernest Cline's novel. As a reminder, we follow the adventures of Wade Watts, a 17-year-old living in a bloodless Earth taking refuge like almost the entire planet in a virtual reality game, the Oasis. In this game, full of references to the culture of the 80s, the designer (announced as a mix between Steve Jobs and Willy Wonka) left before his death a slew of clues to get his hands on 3 keys, which once found, gives access to his fortune.

Who says the 80's says pop-culture. And on the hit Tom Sawyer of the group Rush, Spielberg resurrects those years, through the prism of all the cultural icons of the time. We find with all the malice that characterizes him, Lara Croft, the Interceptor of Mad Max, Duke Nunem of HALO, Freddy Krueger, Deathstroke and Harley Quinn, the Iron Giant, the Delorean of Back to the Future, Akira, Christine's car of Stephen King. All while not abandoning the rhythm or the mastery of his images, which spin at 100 per hour suggest that Mr. Spielberg still has under the elbow to establish his domination over SF, a genre that he paradoxically shaped and which is found in abundance in the initial book. It remains to wait until March to know if Spielberg will actually be the "cinematic game changer" sold by the trailer but suffice to say that at the writing, we are already dreaming of this month of March, where Steven Spielberg will drop a real bombshell in the genre of SF.

Tye Sheridan (X-Men Apocalypse, Mud, Joe), Mark Rylance (Dunkirk, Bridge of Spies), Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz, Star Trek) and Olivia Cooke will be there (salute the pun please) in this film which will be released on March 28, 2018!
