Building on the success of Pentagon Papers, Steven Spielberg would like to continue his momentum and quickly return to work with his sights set on a very personal project that he has been maturing for years: a remake of West Side Story.

While the release of Pentagon Papers (The Post in VO) is barely recorded in the world and we are feverishly waiting for his Ready Player One for the end of March, Steven Spielberg is not idle. Having already planned to shoot the next installment of the Indiana Jones saga in 2019 (with possibly Chris Pratt who would take over from Harrison Ford?), the American director has somewhat surprised his world this week by announcing a series of castings for a project that is close to his heart: a remake of the 1961 masterpiece, West Side Story.

Steven Spielberg will remake West Side Story

By his admission, the film would arrive after Indiana Jones 5 but he took the lead for a simple reason: he wants to be able to take his time to select the right performers. And we understand why because his actors will not only have to play in front of his scope, but especially dance and push the song , which at present, is becoming an increasingly rare commodity in all Hollywood. As for the rest, the story will remain the same; the modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet transposed into the New York of the 50's (although we still do not know the era that will be chosen for Spielberg) plagued by the clashes between two rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks. In any case, this is proof that Steven Spielberg is of this caliber of filmmakers, always anxious to give himself new challenges. And keep the same enthusiasm at 71, as much to say that it commands respect.

You can find this same enthusiasm in his recent Pentagon Papers, an ode to feminism and investigative journalism (necessary these days) and hopefully in the highly anticipated Ready Player One which will be released at the end of March.
