Robert Langdon returns to service in Origine. After Inferno, Angels & Demons, The Lost Symbol or Inferno, the famous professor of symbology finds himself once again at the heart of a mystery that could well change the face of the world…

First of all, I must admit that when I heard that Dan Brown was releasing a new novel, and that in addition it would be the new adventures of Langdon, here is more or less my reaction:

Robert Langdon is back in Dan Brown's Origin

Having loved Brown's novels, but especially those where Robert Langdon plunged into the heart of danger by uncovering the darkest secrets of our civilization, I could only rejoice at the arrival of Origin. By discovering the pitch of the novel, the regulars of the universe of Dan Brown could only find the atmosphere of the famous books that have made the reputation of the author.

In Origin, Edmond Kirsch, a kind of billionaire Steve Jobs passionate about art, made a discovery that calls into question all the foundations of the three monotheistic religions. Thanks to his research, the essential questions that every human being asks himself (where do we come from, what is the purpose of our life,…) will find answers. But the latter may not please believers. Sure to make the right choice by deciding to reveal the result of his research at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Edmond Kirsch puts his life on the line. On the evening of the announcement of his extraordinary discovery, the man disappears. Fortunately, Kirsch was fortunate to have a certain Robert Langdon as a professor at the university. And the two intellectuals remained friends. Invited to the party organized by his former student, Langdon is forced to finish Kirsch's work by doing everything possible to reveal to the world the famous discovery of his friend.

We find the usual tricks of Dan Brown: mystery, esotericism, adventure and a certain pleasure in undermining religion. But this formula is applied with as much seriousness and passion as ever. Each page testifies to Brown's interest in his reader. The writer does not stoop to give us what is expected of him, because that would be too easy. Dan Brown walks his reader, makes him lose his train of thought, convinces him of something and then shows him that he is wrong. It's frustrating, but so clever! Only small downside: the place of the female adjuvant of Robert Langdon. A classic in the adventures of the professor, the latter is always accompanied by a woman. One sometimes wonders if this character, here the director of the museum Ambra Vidal, does not serve only to satisfy a part of Brown's readership. Maybe all Sophie Neveu, Vittoria Vetra, Sienna Brooks, Katherine Solomon deserve their own novel? History to confirm the test carried out with Deception Point.
