Recently, a new slew of movies has emerged on Netflix. We were interested in TRAMPS, available since April 21st.The film brings together two teenagers who do not know each other, but find themselves embroiled in a case for reasons of their own. Across New York, Danny (Callum Turner) and Ellie (Ellie Grace Van Patte) are chasing a briefcase lost following an unfortunate exchange.

    An unexpected romance

Digging through Netflix movies, TRAMPS appears among the platform's latest original releases . Two young and unknown actors on the bill, a synopsis not very transcendent, and a title referring to the world of the street. (Tramps = wanderers, tramps) In short, the only attractive element of the film lies in a detail of the plot: a briefcase has disappeared and it must be found. Problem? Two young foreigners not involved in the case must take care of it.

Surprisingly, once the "play" button is pressed, the promised action disappears in the face of the omnipresence of romance. Indeed, Ellie and Danny embark on a risky epic to find the briefcase. This adventure will be romantic, realistic and shy. But then where is this briefcase? And the person who was originally supposed to receive it, who is he? Unfortunately, we will only get these answers at the end of the film since the course will focus on the two protagonists. Thus, love triumphs over action and puts everything else in the background. Here we are spectators of an unpredictable lovestory… Fortunately for us, this romance was well done because the clothes in the pale colors of the actors accompanied by melodies straight out of the 90s add a somewhat original touch. The warmth of the images creates an atmosphere filled with serenity.

    Far from being an exception

To be honest, TRAMPS does not speed up the beating of our heart, does not make us smile, does not bring tears to the eye. This is explained by the sporadic appearance of action scenes among this wandering romance. As the unfortunate exchange occurs, the action points the tip of its nose to disappear immediately. And it's missing! The film lacks ambition because the story of this briefcase could have been exploited more in order to find the right balance between love and crime. Some scenes are too long and lose us. They result in silences and repetitive melodious walks. In cinema, a well-used silence makes sense and knows how to immerse the viewer.  It can express loneliness, emptiness, reflection… This is for example the case in Saving Private Ryan, Bonnie and Clyde, Interstellar, The Green Line… But TRAMPS scatters long silences throughout the film which, accumulated with each other, are more soporific than impactful.

    A promising duo

In addition to the lethargic form of the film, Callum Turner (Queen and Country) and Ellie Grace Van Patten create a revealing pairing. Currently anonymous on the side of the spectators, it is without a doubt that on the side of the producers they will not be for long! Undoubtedly, their charisma seduces and makes them endearing. They both have a natural presence in front of the camera where Ellie's charm blends perfectly with Callum's presence.

When will these two characters return, whether they are reunited again or solo?

TRAMPS falls into the category of movies that we watch to pass the time. Although it has nothing exceptional in terms of script and direction, it leaves a good impression that we will quickly forget the next day.
