After the release of the first two volumes of the Power Rangers series in comics, the publishing house Glénat offers us Power Rangers Pink, a spin-off centered on the pink ranger. Our review.

Kimberly Hart, now a gymnastics champion, believed she had left behind her life as a protective heroine of the world. But as she travels to the small village of Saint Moineau in France, her past resurfaces. After rescuing the inhabitants from a monster attack, she reconnects with Zordon, her former mentor. It's time for her to be the one she always has been: the Pink Ranger!

    Transmutation required!

It must be admitted that 2017 is the year of the return of the Power Rangers! After the release of the film in theaters as well as the first two volumes in comics, here comes the spin-off dedicated to the Pink Ranger51LW1m2e18L [Criticism] Power Rangers Pink: a flashy and tangy spin-off!and his alter-ego Kimberly Hart. For the record, Kimberly is the first ever pink ranger on the original team in the 1993 series. Portrayed by actress Amy Jo Johnson (Felicity, Flashpoint), the character has appeared in the first three seasons of the show as well as in the three films of the franchise (memorable nod in the 2017 one alongside Jason David Frank aka the green ranger Tommy!). So we find the girl just after leaving the team. A gymnastics champion, she competes and lives in France with her mother and stepfather in the coastal village of St Moineau. But the past will soon catch up with her when the whole village, including her mother, disappears. She then discovers that Goldar is behind it all. To defeat him, she will have to temporarily regain her powers, with the help of Zordon and Alpha 5.

The story is by the duo Brenden Fletcher (Batgirl) and Kelly Thompson (Jem & the Holograms). A simple story, like an episode of the 1993 series but which smells of nostalgia. The idea of giving a sequel to the adventures of the girl after her departure from the series is interesting, especially when it allows us to also find other familiar characters. The moral of the story may seem boaty but the die-hard fan will find his way around. We don't leave the Power Rangers, we stay that way for life! The Italian Daniele Di Nicuolo is in charge of the illustrations. The boards are effective and it must be recognized that it brings a real boost of youth to the whole. The new costumes of the Rangers fit perfectly to 2017 without falling into something too cheap. The decorations are however a little minimalist but the colors of Sarah Stern wrap everything like a pretty candy … strawberry?

Glénat Comics spins the perfect love with the Power Rangers franchise by delivering a magnificent book. Available in two covers (one by the French Elsa Charretier!) the volume is filled with bonuses between the covers of each issue (also drawn by Charretier), a gallery of alternative covers but also a touching preface by actress Amy Jo Johnson. A success!

In conclusion, Power Rangers is more relevant than ever in this year 2017. Glénat offers us Power Rangers Pink to make us wait until the publication of volume 3 of the regular series. A quality and unpublished story, accompanied by rather flashy drawings, full of bonuses. What more could you ask for?
