It's not uncommon in the video game industry for developers to respond to fan demands and be humane. Jurian, who has a very specific cancer, asked to be allowed to play Red Dead Redemption 2. Prayer answered.

Jurian has been living with a rare and chronic form of cancer for 14 years that he stopped treating by a personal decision. Determined to stop fighting a disease that will eventually kill him, Jurian preferred to accept his fate and stop fighting.

As a fan of Rockstar, the young boy had some last wishes. He spoke on the Facebook page of Gamersnet, the Dutch website that relayed the information.

Unfortunately, I am in the last weeks of my life. I'm done. Since 2004, I have been battling a disease called neurofibromatosis type 2. I have many "benign" tumors in my body. I survived for a long time, but I've had enough now.

While I was eagerly awaiting Red Dead Redemption 2, my dad contacted the publisher to see if they had already received a copy before release. They wanted to give it to me but they were not allowed to. So they contacted the head office, which quickly arranged something: at the end of the week, two Rockstar Nederlands employees came to my house and gave me a private demonstration of the game.

[…] Rockstar did something really beautiful."

Unfortunately, Jurian was unable to keep the game. For security reasons, a copy could not be given to him. Red Dead Redemption 2 is scheduled for release on October 26.

Jurian and his father were motivated to contact the publisher following similar stories with Fallout 76 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. We wish courage to Jurian and others around the world who suffer from these incurable diseases.
