On October 16, Running, the second EP by alternative rock band ONLAP, was released. At JustFocus we propose you to take stock of this Parisian band, which seems straight out of the biggest alternative scenes.
ONLAP is a group created 11 years ago and made its debut in the local world of the Parisian scene. Today close to a growing community, the group of Florian, Franck, Pierre, Andréa and Guillaume finally releases its second EP, synonymous with a well-crafted project and rigorous professionalism.
If their first album A Leap In The Dark released in 2009 did not make much noise, it was different from their first EP. After several years of intensive scene, they decide to try something new and it is the ascent. The video for the eponymous single from the EP The Awakening was released in 2012 and now has almost a million views.
A power (too much?) Controlled
Released on October 16 , the deluxe version of the EP Running is the culmination of a project already introduced in January 2017. And if the sound of the group has evolved since its creation, we do not feel an ounce of hesitation in the 9 titles of the opus.
The ONLAP leg is a saturated guitar and a powerful voice that proclaims loud and clear. If the songs address some themes common to the alternative genre, we appreciate that the lyrics put the words on themes as personal and related to mental health. Running, the first single from the EP, is a cry for help and we can only appreciate this kind of frankness. We can admit it, we recognize influences of Linkin Park, name also cited by the group.
Because it's difficult to condense such intense songs into a studio album and the remastered sound sometimes seems a little smooth, it feels like you're going around everything the band can do. The first listen puts all the songs on the same intensity, hence the importance of acoustic covers of their singles at the end of the EP, enough to change the sound of the opus and make us want to hear it live.
ONLAP has nothing to envy so, and if Running shows solid assets and a clean sound, we would have liked an opus a little more raw. All remarks aside, we can't help but say it: the recipe works and we can't wait to see them on stage in 2018. In the meantime, the new EP is available here and on all other legal download platforms!
