Released May 29 on Netflix, Space Force was written by Steve Carell and Greg Daniels. They are best known for the famous adaptation for the American public of The Office. Space Force tells the story of the creation of a new branch of the US military: the United States Space Force. General Mark Naird (played by Steve Carell) is at the helm. Accompanied by crazy colleagues, his mission is to wage war (against China in particular) in and from space.

A nostalgic and refreshing discovery

Discovered totally by chance, this first season made us spend a pleasant moment. It is also totally in the news: Trump having announced the creation of the United States Space Force in December 2019. In the cast of the eponymous series, we will note the presence of Lisa Kudrow, who plays Maggie Naird. Not having watched the trailer before watching the first episode, the surprise was big. We also note the presence of John Malkovich, or Jane Lynch (Glee): two actors so important in American culture in the early 2000s. Fred Williard appears one last time for a post-mortem role: he plays Mark's father. These actors mingle with new faces, little or not known, including Diana Silvers (Booksmart) and Ben Schwartz (Bojack Horseman). spaceforce2 Review of "Space Force": the new Netflix series that is talking about it

A light and comic sitcom

The common thread is simple and affordable : no need to have all the references (musical in particular) to follow the story. Just let yourself be guided, to sit back and relax ! The situation comedy is in order, even if sometimes a little too used. We can't know too much about the characters, we touch on certain situations. This is a slight problem when you want to understand, for example, why Maggie is in prison (not a major spoiler, no worries). So, yes, it's a sitcom. So inevitably, we should not expect anything deeply psychological. This may be Space Force's only problem: too much forced humor and too much or too little developed depth. Despite this, the level is there, and we have a great time alongside a very qualitative cast! spaceforce4 Review of "Space Force": the new Netflix series that is talking about it

A double-edged criticism

On Rotten Tomatoes, the reviews are clear: Space Force has a score of only 40%, compared to 70% for the public.

"An all-star cast and blockbuster-worthy special effects aren't enough to keep Space Force's uneven blend of earnestness and satire from spinning quickly out of comedic orbit." "An all-star cast and blockbuster-like special effects aren't enough to keep Space Force's satire and uneven mix of fervor, which quickly finds itself out of the orbit of comedy."

Tomatoers are known to be relatively wary of sitcoms that have a bit of trouble getting off the ground. However, we believe it, given the rating of the public: for a season one, such a note can still be considered a success. Despite an awkward start, we know that such a project has a certain future. In any case, we will of course be there for the second season. Even if the series sometimes struggles to keep its head above water, it is promising. Everything is going in the right direction, and the dynamic between the actors proves that they still have something to do with it. In summary: take a look, you will not be disappointed. Any good series that respects itself has a soundtrack of thunder, and Space Force is no exception to the rule. So, conquered?
