Odezenne went to the Transbordeur in Lyon on 22 November. The concert was an ellipse out of space-time, filled with energy, bestiality, poetry and generosity. A rare moment as we would like to live more.

A whirlwind of energy and simple beauty

Between the shreds of shadows that cover the stage, silhouettes slip in. The lights wake up on Jaco, Alix, Mattia and his brother Stefano (on drums), the lights rise to the sound of Nuclear. Punctuated by drums calibrated like a goddess, the first song of the album Au Baccara is haloed with the voices of Alix and Jaco, with stable, low and soothing timbres.

The concert has just started, and we already know that we are going to have a great time.
Mattia juggles with instruments: keyboard, guitar, drums… Jaco gesticulates in all directions, he burns a monstrous energy on his own, absorbs the eyes as he spits out the decibels. With its dark mane, it looks like a lion. Alix would then be a wolf, a little wiser.

The band does all the songs of Au Baccara, and integrates tracks from the albums Rien and Dolziger Str. 2 in the set. We savor the good classics."It's a love song," Jaco warns into the microphone, before Alix begins the first verse of I want to fuck you.

The whole album Au Baccarat has already become a classic, for this audience who knows the lyrics by heart. BNP is almost terrifying as it is chanted with vehemence and power. While Au Baccarat 's favorite track is Nucléaire, it was En L that won our favor that night in Lyon. We chanted: "I flew like a cloud, like a missile in the sky", so loudly, as if we really had the power to stop these missiles there.

At times, between two impulses of excessive vitality infused by the stage, we just wanted to sit on the floor, alone in front of the artists, and let ourselves be gently enveloped by the sound.

Odezenne signs a masterful finale

During Baby, the atmosphere becomes electric. It's like being in a club: the bass, the spots, the excessive joy.

And then, as we prepare to leave, the music does not stop. "Lyon, are you ready to turn the room around? ". The bass doesn't stop hitting, and more than songs, we share a moment. This is always the case, but not all artists make it feel like Odezenne does.

Jaco becomes a lightning bolt on the scene, as if inhabited by lightning. Odezenne, more than notes, gives love. The quartet makes two returns, and a final appearance to salute, a bit like in the theater.

We enjoyed a log honed to perfection. "Sorry to the CRS present tonight" Jaco apologizes at the end of the song.

Before each encore, the audience to the top of the stands, claps their hands, feet and hearts so hard, that it is a miracle that the Rhône did not rise in a memorable storm. At the very end, because his singing time is up, Jaco jumps on the spot, his steps reason on the floor of the stage: he is thunder."I promise you, we'd like to stay… " It's funny, we want exactly the same thing.

Baccarat has never been so alive.

After the concert, Mattia, Alix and Jaco appear at the CD and vinyl sales stand. They don't mechanically dedicate covers and newspapers; They take the time to talk, to look, to hug sometimes.
The men of Odezenne are funny, charismatic, and then sacred composers and performers. Do not hesitate: go see them, it should be reimbursed by the social security.

Au Baccarat: an album at the peak of sweetness

Odezenne has accustomed us to being surprised. Going from La Bûche to Souffle Le Vent, that's the Odezenne effect. Alternating "big anything" with crazy poetry. It is a vibrant mixture of pure love and assumed obscenities.
Au Baccarat released on October 12, does not escape their atypical standard.

The song Bébé , for example, has a clip almost as epileptic as its lyrics. However, what we remember from this Odezenne album is a huge piece of sweetness. Not the silly sweetness, the Odezenne sweetness, that is to say soaring, bewitching, throbbing pieces, which occupy all the spaces, in the room, and then inside the body too.

Our favourite: NUCLEAR

Instru a little anxiety-provoking, camera that travels the pink sky. The sound softens. And the voice rises, in tandem with the percussion. Stable, assured, and yet vulnerable. It encompasses a little more than the heart. The clouds turn dark blue. Nuclear is a love story. The one that places itself under the arbitrary gaze of the gods but whose protagonists do not care about everything…
