Another star is leaving – Chester Bennington joins his friend Chris Cornell

Sad days for rock and metal music. Chester Bennington, the charismatic singer of Linkin Park, died on July 20, 2017 at his home in California. His death deeply marks his fans and his entourage.

After the sudden disappearance of Chris Cornell, his friend, on May 18, Chester Bennington took his own life on his friend's birthday.

The band was on tour for the release of their latest album, One More Light released on May 19, 2017. He went on to perform summer festivals, including a remarkable appearance in France at Download and then at the Hellfest festival. 

A difficult childhood for Chester Bennington

Born into a modest family, Chester Bennington grew up in Arizona. His childhood was marked by drama. Sexually assaulted at the age of 7, he underwent divorce from his parents and eventually fell into drugs and alcoholism. 

It was in 1997 after a stint in the group Grey Daze, that he auditioned and joined Linkin Park. Three years later the band signed with Warner Bros. and recorded Hybrid Theory, then Meteora in 2003, two incredible albums whose titles are now essential and taken up in chorus by fans at each concert. 

In 2005, Chester took a break with the band and went on a new solo project: Dead By Sunrise. Although he later expressed the desire to release other albums with this formation, this group will only last the time of one album: Out Of Ashes, released in 2006.

The success of Linkin Park

The albums will then follow one another, diversifying musically; The band experiments with each opus, seeking to enrich their metal with different sounds and rhythms. These choices will lead to a lot of criticism including betting the fans of the first hour.

In 2013, Chester became the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots, a band he respects and has loved since his early days in music. This adventure will last only 2 years.

A sudden and unexpected disappearance

Chester committed suicide 2 months after the release of their last album in the middle of the tour and the day of the release of their latest video: Talking To Myself on YouTube.

It is with sadness that we learn of his death and the canvas pays tribute to this tormented singer, who left too soon.

We will remember his tender, sensitive and powerful voice, his energy on stage and his lyrics that many of us listened to as teenagers or young adults and screamed to lose our vocal cords.
