As you can see, this is the great return of these colorful little creatures. To the delight of children, Trolls 2 goes on a world tour and is released in theaters on October 14 with Walt Dohrn, accompanied for this second part by David P. Smith.

Synopsis:

Poppy, queen of the pop kingdom wishes the best for her people. Always in a good mood, she sees life in pink. Unfortunately, her radiant little world falls apart when she learns that other very different trolls exist on earth. Indeed, Barb, queen of the hard rock kingdom, intends to suppress all other musical genres. To do so, she wants to forcibly appropriate the 6 musical strings: techno, funk, country, classical, pop and hard rock. Poppy immediately embarks on Barb's quest to reason with her and give back to each people its artistic freedom.

But where do Trolls come from?

These little creatures didn't come out of nowhere. Troll dolls were produced by Danish Thomas Dam in 1959. This fisherman and lumberjack surely never thought he would be so successful with such wacky dolls. In reality, he made the first troll doll for Lila, his daughter for Christmas because he did not have enough money to buy her a gift. So his imagination and hands took care of the work. Lila made a hit at school with her doll, all her classmates wanted one. This is how the Dam company was created. Introduced in the 60s in Europe, it was in 1963 that they became one of the greatest fads in the United States.

An almost 5-star cast

If you had the chance to speak the language of Shakespeare and therefore watch the film in its original version, you could recognize many hits and enjoy all the references to American culture. The greatest artists of each musical genre are on the bill: Ozzy Osbourne and Rachel Bloom for hard rock, Anthony Ramos for techno, George Clinton and Mary J. Blige for funk, Kelly Clarkson for country, Gustavo Dudamel and Charlyne Yi for classical, J Balvin for reggaeton, not to mention Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake for pop. The latter also supervises the creative direction of the music. Walt Dohrn had no trouble convincing all these artists. For the most part, they had already seen the first Trolls with their children. Everyone saw the joyful and childish side of the scenario. Unfortunately for you, the French version is much less prestigious. The translations are far from up to par. The musical references obviously do not speak to 6-year-old French children. There are also no representatives of all musical genres at the French level. We find Vegedream for the rap part and Vitaa and Matt Pokora for the pop. These details produce a less sophisticated effect than the American rendering.

Trolls 2: Between Fact and Fiction

Even if the characters are far from physically resembling humans, we can still observe similarities in their behaviors. The director was indeed inspired by the current social climate prevailing in the United States. The film may not have been shot yesterday but it echoes a divided America. Today more than ever, ideas are opposed and Americans do not get along or at least no longer listen to each other. Through the war of musical genres, the director denounces the rupture between citizens. They all think their point of view is the best and no longer dwell on listening or debating with people with different opinions. Walt Dohrn confesses: "I firmly believe in everyone's civil liberties, everyone has the right to behave as they see fit." It is very common for animated films to address social issues because often the characters with a slightly crazy look are listened to more than a man in a suit and tie. It's also never too early to teach our children to keep an open mind. Despite everything, the Trolls 2 remains extremely cheerful and colorful, perfect to have a good time without taking the lead. The children are sure to be entertained. It is even more musical than the first one so be careful with your ears because the little ones may reproduce these charming melodies all evening.
