The Downton Abbey team has finally revealed the release date of the film! This feature film follows the English series broadcast between 2010 and 2015. The film will welcome all the original actors and newcomers.
After three years of waiting, fans can look forward to the return of their favorite series. Downton Abbey returns in a long format. The film, scheduled for release in September 2019, follows the sixth season aired in 2015. Spectators will be able to discover on the big screen the adventures of the Crawley family. Series creator Julian Fellowes wrote the script. The film was directed by Brian Percival, who had previously directed the pilot project for the series. The Downton Abbey team remains complete since Michelle Dockery, Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Laura Carmichael, Kevin Doyle… The Crawleys should however meet new people since many actors join the troupe. Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, Kate Philips and many more were announced.
A project on the wire
If fans are so happy to find the universe of Downton Abbey, it is because they were not sure to be able to see it again one day. Indeed, the series ended in 2015. A film project was considered quickly, as early as April 2016. Then, no more news was communicated. It was only in July 2018 that the project resurfaced. A first release date was envisaged. Finally, instead of September 13, 2019, the film will be released on the big screen on September 20, 2019. Except in case of another setback… This feature film remains in any case very mysterious. Not much is known about this sequel. Producer Gareth Neame said the film's script "charms, shudders and entertains.Maggie Smith said she was tired of her character and the show. Yet it is part of the upcoming film. In an interview for Radio Times, the actress hinted that the film would surely stage the funeral of her character. Is she right?
The Crawley family will return to the big screen on September 20, 2019 in the United States. The France release date has not yet been communicated.
