The world of world animation has been dominated for years by Pixar. We no longer count the number of awards gleaned by the studio. On the other hand, we regret that Japanese animation is completely ignored by the academy while it includes many nuggets. This year Coco was the favorite for the Oscar for Best Animated Film.

Diversity is at the heart of everyone's mind. And since the beginning of this 90th Academy Awards, we feel it by the multiple references to the success of Black Panther, Get Out and the folk universe of Coco.

We will not denigrate the work done on the other nominated animated films. Ferdinand for example deals with the magnificent fight of a Bull to escape a fatal outcome. The animation is of quality, the characters endearing, but there are unfortunately not several levels of reading.

Baby Boss, another work of American animation is entertaining but singularly lacks relief to have a chance.

Only the Van Gogh passion stood out this year among Coco's competitors. And yet, in a year when things had to change, the success of a marvel of American animation was evident. By opening a door to an unknown universe, by exploring themes that speak to today's world, all the ingredients were there.

Coco won the Oscar for Best Animated Film. A new success for Disney and Pixar before the next one in 2019 with The Incredibles 2?
