This evening is about change. After the Harvey Weinstein affair that forever changed the world of the seventh art, we necessarily expected the subject to come out during this 90th Academy Awards. The host of this evening, Jimmy Kimmel, was able to approach this sensitive subject with a certain lightness.

An unchanged team on Canal Plus

You don't change a winning team. Canal Plus once again relied on its in-house specialist of the seventh art, Laurent Weil, and Didier Allouch, the most American of French journalists to animate the red carpet and the evening. With their usual going, they have on animate the two hours before the beginning of the festivities.

Among the highlights are the words of Agnès Varda (nominated for the documentary Villages…) when the correspondent of Canal said to him Mr…. to bring him luck. "Smile at us, that will be more than enough!" Strong words that underline the atypical profile of an incredible woman.

Gael Garcia Bernal also had the opportunity to express himself on the personal character of the latest Pixar creation, Coco. The animated film achieved prowess at the box office (witness its success in China, France…) and should win easily tonight for the Oscar for Best Animated Film.

    Jimmy Kimmel as Oscar Master

Leading a ceremony like the Césars or others related to cinema is not the easiest task. Manu Payet is currently garnering some harsh criticism following his performance on Friday, March 2. Jimmy Kimmel is the host of this 90th Academy Awards. Expectations are even higher for him.

For an important anniversary, the academy has bet this year on sobriety. Archive footage mixed with some live images, all animated by the voice-over of a Jimmy Kimmel perfectly at ease in the role of the commentator.

Some may have expected a more committed speech, others might have liked the Weinstein subject not to be highlighted… With great sobriety, Kimmel spoke on the subject. He used Oscar who is asexual to properly bring the subject.

The staggering results of Black Panther, the nominations of women nominated for the first time in certain categories and the great critical success of Get Out are other topics skillfully addressed by Kimmel.

On the French side, we will closely follow Agnès Varda and JR, Alexandre Desplats and Timothée Chalamet.
