After the critical success of the first film, Fede Alvarez decided to produce a second Don't Breath. For this sequel, however, he leaves the direction to Rodolfo Sayagues who signs here his first feature film. On the casting side, Stephen Lang is obviously back in the skin of the Blind. Released in 2016, Don't Breath – The House of Darkness received mostly positive reviews and grossed more than $157 million at the box office (on a budget of $9.9 million).

Don't Breath 2: a reversal of themes

Don't Breath 2 replays the score of Terminator 2. That is to say that the villain of the first film becomes the hero of the second opus. Through this process of inversion, the feature film finds its raison d'être and thus avoids falling into the simple and easy repetition warmed. By this process Rodolfo Sayagues tells something else and brings other themes, especially to the character of the Blind Man.The latter, still embodied by the formidable Stephen Lang, thus goes from dangerous and cruel figure to that of the hero, from the father to the rescue of his adopted daughter. A clever change that makes sense, especially in the last part of the footage. Don't Breath 2: an attractive B-movie sequel It is in any case a good way to propose something else, and a scenario that moves away from the original work. Especially since Rodolfo Sayagues is going to the end of his commitments. Through a radical treatment, he remains on his way, does not backpedal, despite a sometimes tendentious outcome, especially on the status of the Blind. The ancient demon therefore has the right to his redemption and Rodolfo Sayagues then reminds us that blood ties are not unshakeable, indispensable and primordial.

A more action-oriented follow-up

The feature film also decided to change its tone. Exit the oppressive format of the first film, which played on silence, on atmosphere, on confinementDon't Breath 2 decides to turn more towards gruff and gory action. Even if the closed eight in a house is still respected, Rodolfo Sayagues offers an approach that looks more towards the B series than the horror film. He prefers to increase the action, the noise, the violence, to finally sign an action film often classy, and intelligent. It's simple, sometimes it's a real survival tutorial as the Blind makes decisions quickly and without ever making a mistake. With this sequel, the protagonist becomes even more emblematic and offers himself a new facet. Don't Breath 2: an attractive B-movie sequel However, Don't Breath 2 sometimes lacks ambition, preferring to remain a small violent action movie, rather than develop a surprising scenario. The story is stitched together and reversals are often predictable. The attentive viewer will easily recognize the scripted strings that are clearly not hidden. A flaw that also gives Don't Breath 2 its B series status. https://youtu.be/NI_M7PpYTZM
