Released in 2007, Hot Fuzz is the second installment in the "Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy", directed by Edgar Wright. Endowed with an English humour, the film mixes styles, between police comedy and grotesque fantasy. It is now part of the cult films of "buddy movie" thanks to the duo Pegg-Frost placed at the heart of the plot.

By ridiculing his colleagues by his efficiency, Nicolas Angel (Simon Pegg), super cop, is ousted by his London colleagues. He was transferred to the small village of Stanford in Gloucestershire. The crime rate is the lowest in the Kingdom. Accompanied by his new sidekick, Danny Butterman, Sergeant Angel will quickly realize the boredom that reigns over the small town. Going in search of a swan or fining alcoholic minors will become the main activities. But accidents will follow one another and a mystery will have to be revealed.

A reference pair

The duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are back in force in this totally crazy burlesque comedy. Three years after Shaun of the dead (1st film of the trilogy), in which the duo had brilliantly fought against a zombie attack, it is to the detective films that he wishes to pay tribute.
A tribute on a parody background, using the same symbols and codes as Point Break or Bad boys II, also cited as a reference to the detective genre. Everything is present in Hot fuzz which ultimately represents a huge cliché of the American action movie.
Nicolas Angel is a real hero, powerful, infallible, who will befriend a policeman, Danny Butterman, totally ignorant. The duo, which opposes each other on all points, works wonderfully. We appreciate the gap given between the two characters, allowing to balance the tone of the film. In addition, Wright insists on a whole gallery of secondary characters who bring their touches of originality to the scenario. Various cameos also feed this feature film, with the appearance of Bill Nighy, Cate Blanchett, Martin Freeman. Even a Peter Jackson subtly dressed as a crazy Santa Claus.

Not to mention the explosive action scenes, totally enjoyable. Especially in the last half hour when Wright let himself go somewhat, without any limits.

The Cornetto trilogy and more

The "Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy" presents its first fragrance in Shaun of the Dead, in 2005. Then a second discovery, like a second layer of ice, by the spectacular Hot Fuzz. Finally, the final touch arrives six years later with The World's end. Director Edgar Wright, and the duo of co-writer/actors, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, go to great lengths to sublimate the clichés of certain genres of films.

The same scenes are repeated in all three films. The presence of Cornetto ice cream, whose packaging differs (red for blood, blue for police and green for aliens). Or, the passage of the barrier jump, with the same line "You never taken a shortcute before? " ("You've never taken shortcuts before?" ). Not to mention the iconic pub, present throughout the trilogy. A comedy of repetition on the whole trilogy that does not affect the quality of the films.

A new discovery is coming with the release of the first film of the duo Pegg-Frost. Slaughterhouse Rulez, a horror comedy, which will be released at the end of October in England. This first installment will mark the launch of their production company Stolen Picture

In the meantime, discover or rediscover Hot Fuzz, this mix of genre between comedy, crime and action. He alternates offbeat humor and action scenes to make any classic blush. The film is excellently led by the interpretation of the actors, and its finale of madness.
