Sky has unveiled the first teaser for the series "The Young Pope", created by Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino, starring Jude Law.
He plays Lenny Belardo, aka Pius XIII, the first Italian-American Pope in history. The series co-produced by Sky, HBO and Canal + should be released jointly on all channels in the fall.
This first Pope with a complex and contradictory personality bears no resemblance to the traditional Vatican pope. Both perceptive and naïve, cruel and compassionate, conservative and modern, he seems to seek himself as much as he seeks God. If he is interested in the poor and the weakest, he is also pedantic and despite the strength of his faith, he behaves unorthodox, smoking or praying shirtless in a swimming pool. Jude Law seems to brilliantly embody this flawed Pope in the first clip of the series.
The director of Youth has surrounded himself with his long-time collaborators Umberto Contarello, Tony Grisoni and Stefano Rulli to write this series of 8 episodes that we can't wait to discover.
Just like its broadcast, the cast of the series is international. Jude Law is accompanied by his compatriots Diane Keaton, Scott Sheperd and James Cromwell, Italians Silvio Orlando and Tony Bertorelli, Spanish actor Javier Camara, Belgian actress Cécile De France and French actress Ludivine Sagnier.
