The famous rapper Dr. Dre has obtained the rights to adapt the life of Marvin Gaye on the big screen. However, according to Variety, no agreement has been signed yet.

Dr. Dre was the first person to secure the rights to tell the Motown icon's story. F. Gary Gray, Cameron Crowe, Scott Rudin and Lenny Kravitz had tried before him, without success. No date for the project has yet been given. As one of the most iconic soul singers of his generation, Marvin Gaye has fascinated and continues to fascinate many. The singer of "Sexual Healing" and "What's Going On" has been missing for 34 years, murdered by his father.

This will not be a first for Dr. Dre. The rapper had already invested in films like Succeed or Die in 2005 and, ten years later, in Straight Outta Compton. This year, Dr. Dre is also producing a Netflix series, The Defiant Ones, which chronicles his journey with Jimmy Iovine, his studio partner.

The idea of adapting Marvin Gaye's life is also not new. In 2016, Jamie Foxx wanted to dedicate a mini-series to the life of the soul singer. However, this project did not come to fruition.

A biopic on Marvin Gaye will soon arrive on our screens, making live a little longer the soul singer gone at only 44 years old.
