Modern Family is THE series everyone has been talking about since 2009. A veritable laboratory on today's society, it continues today its quest to address current themes by welcoming in an episode the first transgender child…
Modern Family, in its form as a parody comedy/documentary, has always focused on realistically portraying today's family. It is the first series to have included in its cast a gay couple with a baby, Mitchell and Cameron (played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet).
In the second episode of season 8, aired Wednesday, September 28 on ABC, a transgender child appeared. Jackson Millarker, 8, played Tom, a friend of Lily, the daughter of the same-sex couple. This is a first in an American television series according to the American site Vulture !
Ryan Case, the director of the episode in question, captioned a photo posted on Instagram: "This is Jackson Millarker. He's 8 years old, from Atlanta, and he happens to be transgender. He plays Lily's friend Tom on this week's episode of Modern Family, and he's great. One of the main reasons I love being a part of this show."
