Eager to enter the legend by crushing the wizard of the labyrinth, a group of adventurers break their teeth on the brink of their objective. Stumbling against a dragon, Laïos' team is held in check. Saved in extremis by Farynn, the magician of the team, who teleports them outside the dungeon, our heroes come out alive from their journey, but not without clashes: some of their comrades have fallen in battle against the giant lizard, while others decide to find another company after this bitter failure. Only Laios does not intend to stop there, he wishes at all costs to save his benefactor Farynn who has been eaten by the dragon. The digestion of the creature being particularly long, it is still possible to save it, but going on an adventure requires a certain capital in order to stock up! Faced with time that is pressing and wishing to satisfy one of his greatest dreams, Laïos decides to resort to beings lying in the labyrinth to feed himself!
Gloutons & Dragons tells us the adventures of Laïos and his companions progressing in the dungeon to rescue Farynn. Combining combat, humor and gastronomy, he describes chapter after chapter, how the group of adventurers gets their meals as varied as they are unusual. How can you consume a slime? How to cook a mandrake? All these secrets and many more await you in this work.
Even if a large part of the title is devoted to food, Ryoko Kui reveals the facets of the different protagonists of his title. Between Laïos, the human warrior at the head of the group, Tylchak the thief halfelon, Marcyle the wizard elf and Senshi the dwarf cook, Gluttons & Dragons highlights their particularities, whether it is a question of their knowledge, their fighting skills, their fears or their aspirations. On the bestiary side, we are also served, since the author draws from the classics of heroic-fantasy and appropriates them by modifying some of their characteristics, in order to serve his work. The drawings meanwhile, are quite classic for the characters, lacking details from time to time. But for a first serialized work it remains very correct. Ryoko Kui puts her talents at the service of the creatures she draws.
A real critical success in Japan, Gloutons & Dragons has not gone unnoticed in its country. Ranked first in the boys' manga category of Kono manga ga sukoi 2016, it was also elected first in the top 15 manga recommended by the Honyaclub website the same year (selection made from 2000 Japanese booksellers).
