This is the manga sensation of this fall. The manga Jujutsu Kaisen, published since 2018 in Japan, landed in anime version on the Crunchyroll platform in early October. It is clear that this little new shonen is much talked about. So real promising manga or simple fad? Focus!

Jujustu Kaisen: What is it about?

"Jujutsu kaisen takes place in a world where plagues are created from the negative emotions of man. Thus, to protect places with a high concentration of emotions such as schools or hospitals, these infrastructures have a relic. This relic is in fact a scourge, because one can only fight against plagues with a more powerful plague. Plagues are invisible to humans except for a handful of people, such as exorcists. The job of an exorcist is to eliminate the plagues and thus protect the people from them, but this is not without risk, because the plagues can be more or less powerful." We follow the adventures of Yuji Itadori, a young high school student member of the exorcists' club, kind and devoted, but above all endowed with extraordinary physical abilities. Everything changes when his club realizes that they are in possession of an S-rank relic. But not just any. This is one of the ten fingers of the most powerful scourge: Ryomen Sukuna! JUJUTSU KAISEN review: The new Shonen that is all the rage! Neither one nor two, they are attacked by a band of plagues wanting to seize this famous relic. A merciless fight ensues, in which Yuji is supported by an exorcist named Megumi. In bad shape, Yuji decides to eat Ryomen Sukuna's finger… Something that everyone would have done in his place, of course!

An interesting but quite cautious nekketsu…

Jujutsu Kaisen flirts with déjà vu but is still good entertainment. It is difficult to revolutionize a genre that has already known its hours of glory. Indeed, if you are followers of this style, the manga will surely evoke (in broad outline) more famous manga, Naruto in mind. The main character being a high school student trying at all costs to protect his friends is a classic of shonen. In addition, the "exorcists fighting demons" aspect has already been in works such as D.Gray Man, Blue Exorcist, Bleach or very recently in Demon Slayer. So we see that the Japanese love gore and horror universes. Perfect for Halloween. JUJUTSU KAISEN review: The new Shonen that is all the rage! In other words, Jujutsu Kaisen stays in the nails, does not take any risks but it is not worse! Even if it means making a generic work, as long as it is well done. Taking risks is not always synonymous with success, quite the contrary…

The Mappa studio at the controls!

One of the things that needs to be emphasized in Jujutsu Kaisen is the animation. Indeed, the immersion is very well done, we dive directly into a rather dark world but which is still accessible. A superb rendering, whether in the colors, always cold and dull, or through the sound. The music also brings back a gloomy atmosphere that is more than appreciable. This animation is signed by the studio Mappa. Decidedly, the studio has the wind in its sails because it signs a very beautiful performance with Jujutsu Kaisen and it will also be behind the 4th and final season of the anime Attack of the titans. As you will have understood, the animation of Jujutsu Kaisen is clearly not negligible. The anime even offers one of the most fashionable studios of the moment. This autumn season has its share of novelties ! Jujutsu Kaisen is a nice surprise for this end of the year. A real hit in the land of the rising sun, the anime adaptation adds a layer to this essential manga. The first five episodes are already available on the Crunchyroll simulcast platform. If you want to see pure shonen without a headache, then it will be perfect for you. Perfect for a good lockdown! If you want to see the trailer, it's available right here: https://youtu.be/4tHIxYH47VY
