This Wednesday, June 14, was the third day of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. A very varied selection of films in and out of competition is unveiled, to which are added event screenings (world premieres). This year, the JustFocus team offers you every day a summary of the films in competition.

    A Silent Voice

ebad5147f4a4b02225d4957b0b1db9951460114463_fullToday, we have only attended one feature film screening in competition. This one comes directly from Japan, where it already has a great success: A Silent Voice, directed by Naoko Yamada, deals with the relationship between Shoko Nishimiya, a young deaf girl, and Shoya Ishida, the boy who made fun of her at school. When the latter's attitude is revealed, his friends turn against him and it is his turn to be humiliated. A few years later, Ishida reunites with Nishimiya and decides to redeem himself. A Silent Voice delivers a powerful message about bullying and its impact on the lives of those who experience it. We see this especially with Shoya Ishida, because he was both the persecutor and the persecuted, giving the character a kind of dual role. The characters usually quickly become endearing and the animation is very neat. However, there are some lengths, which we forgive quite quickly since they correspond to the style of the film and play on its coherence. (Trailer)

We also had the chance to attend the world premiere of the film Funny Little Beasts by Antoon Krings and Arnaud Bouron. For those who follow us on social networks, you will have understood that we could not go to the world premiere of Despicable Me 3, to our greatest regret. Don't forget to follow us on social networks and come and watch on JustFocus for the release of various reviews of the films screened at the Annecy Film Festival!
