This is the decision made by the Lionsgate studio, after the catastrophic results of the third part. As a reminder, the last novel in Veronica Roth's series has been split into two parts as is done more and more often in cinema (Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games, …). But now, in the meantime, Divergent 3: Beyond the Wall has not met with the same success as the previous ones, generating only $ 171M, against $ 288M and $ 297M.
As a result, the producers decided to absorb the losses by passing the last part, which was scheduled for the summer of 2017, directly on television, perhaps targeting a little more its audience. But that's not all. Indeed, there is also the project of a spin-off series, inspired by the universe of Divergent. In the meantime, it's not sure if headliners like Shailenne Woodley (Tris) and Theo James (Four) are back… Case to follow then.
