Zombillénium by Arthur de Pins and Alexis Ducord

Animation / France / 1h18 / With the voices of Emmanuel Curtil, Kelly Marot, Alexis Tomassian

Thanks to a very fluid and colorful 3D animation, Zombillenium is a rhythmic pop work, with a catchy soundtrack. Skip The Use participated in the film, the leader of the group doubles one of the protagonists and infuses it with his own identity, introduced in the clip Nameless World. Coupled with an allegory on the relatively intelligent world of work, where the functioning of a company is expressed through this fantastic park, this film is a high-flying French cartoon that asks the right questions in high-end entertainment.

    Thor Ragnarök by Taika Waititi

Fantastic / American / 2h11 / with Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins

A third unreleased opus, which creates a real break compared to the two previous opuses. Taika Waititi is an outstanding director with a personal identity and very effective valves. His previous film Vampires in All Intimacy had already drawn attention to him. He manages to anchor his film in the Marvel universe, perfectly structured, in the tradition of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, while refining the universe of the Norse god. He loses credibility, is opposed to some important dangers, facing an unprecedented fall for a super-powerful hero. Much superior to the predecessors, Thor 3 remains very faithful to the comics, sweeping Ragnarök on Asgard. The omnipresent humor and this brainless pop side are real weapons for this new opus. Hulk is endearing and more developed even if he remains a comic element above all. Thor is impressive, becomes a new god of thunder, Loki is exciting although somewhat discredited at times and Hela is dark at will. The finale remains unprecedented in the superheroic landscape for an amazing Thor, an uninhibited and totally funny pop work.

    Logan Lucky by Steven Soderbergh

Comedy / American / 1h58 / with Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Daniel Craig

With Logan Lucky, Soderbergh returns to a saving simplicity. Funny and touching, the film is very spontaneous, especially thanks to its sensitive characters, beautiful losers. The cast is of high order, carried by talented actors inhabited by their roles: Channing Tatum, Adam Driver and especially Daniel Craig lit, who returns to the English cinema since Layer Cake. Logan Lucky is an assumed comedy, very funny, wrapped in an astonishing authenticity. The film is very welcoming, wrapped in this folk soundtrack and these simple and impactful shots. Soderbergh came out of retirement to sign a small touching film, thanks to very human characters.

    Kathryn Bigelow Strait

Drama / American / 2h23 / with John Boyega, Will Poulter, Anthony Mackie

hero Detroit 2017 October 2017: What were the best films according to the editors?

With his unexpected approach, Bigelow signs a great historical film. A violent and tense closed session, which demonstrates the balance of power between the police, the leaders and African-Americans. The filmmaker highlights a whole corrupt system, at all levels, from the police to the judiciary but remains objective by presenting noble and respectful characters from these backgrounds. Kathryn Bigelow approaches her work with great intelligence. Detroit is divided into three distinct parts: an informative introduction of about twenty minutes, a poignant and bloody closed door that represents the large part of the film, and the consequences of it. Detroit is a poignant work, which confronts politics, humanism, racism and violence. Rather than entering the usual shackles of biopics or historical films, which generally try to inscribe everything in their history, Detroit is betting on being very sharp. Kathryn Bigelow does not get lost along the way and signs a concise, strongly evocative and poignant film.

Blade Runner 2049 by Denis Villeneuve

Science fiction / American / 2h44 / with Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista

Blade Runner Affiche 1 e1507061012779 October 2017: What were the best films according to the editors?

A sequel at the height of the first. Dennis Villeneuve manages to honor this masterpiece of science fiction by taking the tone and form of the original. Ryan Gosling is perfect, the stakes even deeper than in the original, reaching vertiginous questions about the condition of man, machine and the very notion of existence. Blade Runner 2049 lacks slightly soul, especially compared to its predecessor, but the beauty of the film and the almost flawless scenario tape the viewer until this stunning, sensitive, powerful finale…
