Theo Lawrence & The Hearts is the new French soul phenomenon. More than Soul, it's Rhythm & Blues, it's sound that comes from afar but plays on more recent codes to finally convince everyone!

Theo Lawrence & The Hearts a discovery 2016

If the band has already scoured the festival stages last year, we hope that it will be the case again this year.Printemps de Bourges, Francofolies de La Rochelle, Rock-en-Seine… Many of them snatched them away. However, there was then only one title to put in the tooth and a few teasing videos. But since then…

A first part noticed of St Paul & The Broken Bones, a show in Paris at the Maroquinerie and here they are programmed for the Mondial du Tattoo. Suffice to say that this small group may be more present than we thought in the musical landscape this year.

A first single and an EP that set the tone

A title flowing and dripping like ice melting in the sun. Sensual what it takes with this super seductive timbre of Theo Lawrence, young Franco-Canadian of 21 years. A little crooner, a little blues man, and that little grain in the voice… tasty to make you shudder. We also love when it stirs and gets carried away just as much as this softer voice that subtly rises in the highs. A little gem that we gladly pass in a loop.

Their first EP, Sticky Icky, was released in November 2016 :

And you can listen to this little pearl on their bandcamp

Retro but not too much. Their music sounds right and marries wonderfully soul, rhythm & blues, rock'n roll and even allows a little country touch without falling into the cliché. It's rich, it balances well, it's catchy and it will end up directly in your evening playlists… It's obvious!

No worse than anything, their music is a ray of sunshine and puts fishing.

    But who are they?

Theo Lawrence : Vocals and guitar
Louis-Marin Renaud : Guitar and backing vocals Olivier Viscat : Bass

Thibault L. Rooster: drums and backing vocals Nevil Bernard: Organ and keyboards

Five young musicians who have stuck to Richard Linklater's School of Rock , who must therefore appreciate Jack Black's talents as a musician and singer and have decided to … do the same in their own way.

Small reminder of this film that I recommend for the delirium and because Jack Black is really good:

We understood very well the principle: when you want the music you like to exist, make it yourself!

And it smells like squeaky vinyl, colorful jukebox, bubble gum, prom floors, gomina… But also the blues clubs in the basement, these intimate places, or the dark and subdued scenes of squalid bar background where suddenly a voice rises, challenges and gives birth to silence.

We think of St Paul & The Broken Bones of course, but also Alabama Shakes, so many beautiful influences that make you want to hear more!

They will be on Sunday, March 5 under the Grande Halle de la Villette in the evening for a concert in perfect harmony with the framework of the Mondial du Tattoo.
