This is a case that has not failed to make people cringe since last year. After several twists and turns, it seems that the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by the giant Disney is confirmed.

After an extraordinary general meeting of Fox shareholders, they validated almost unanimously (99%) the takeover of their group by the company with big ears. In other words, the deal is almost already concluded and that little could still stand in the way of this merger. Recall that several reversals of situations had almost prevented Disney from carrying out this operation. One thinks in particular of the case of the Comcast group, which had surprised its world by coming to outbid the first offer of Disney. But the entertainment juggernaut has not let itself be dismantled and outbids in turn.

Fox shareholders have agreed to a transaction worth $71.3 billion, of which $35.7 billion should be returned in cash (just that!). The rest of the operation should be carried out by a partial sale of Disney's new capital (about 19%), as well as by a buyout of debts belonging to Fox.

So we are dealing with a mega-merger of paramount importance for popular culture. In addition to the many franchises that should fall into the hands of Disney (X-Men, Alien …) It is above all a cultural monopoly that is announced when it comes to entertainment cinema. With firepower like this, there is little that could stand in the way of the big-eared company when it comes to blockbusters. Disney is therefore on the way to realizing the dream of any company: to hold the monopoly on its domain. And to the extent that the U.S. Department of Justice has approved this takeover, there is little chance that it will not take place.

The completion of the acquisition of Fox should take place during the year 2019. Will new twists and turns punctuate this economic and cultural narrative? Case to follow!
