Snake Pass is the result of the independent studio Sumo Digital, released on March 28 on Steam, it is a platform game a little special!

To make it simple and short, you play as Noodle, an orange snake whose friend is a hummingbird. Your hummingbird friend, Doodle, will alert you that something very serious is happening, indeed, the orbs of the forest have been stolen. These orbs allow the opening of portals, which will make you travel from "world to world". As you will have understood, as the "king" of the forest you will have to find his orbs and restore access to the portal. To do this, you will have to collect the missing orbs from the four corners of the different worlds. The scenario is of course only a pretext but it is not for him that you will play Snake Pass, but rather for the pleasure of undulating like a snake.

    Snake Pass

    A colourful and refreshing world

Noodle evolves in a very colorful world in a very distant type forest, in a graphic style close to the cartoon. If you happen to stop, Noodle will eventually fall asleep and snore slightly, which will annoy your friend. When you're close to falling, Noodle will make a pretty funny face with a little noise like "Help, I'm slipping!». This snake and its friend look very cute, which will appeal to both young and old. The music is also very pleasant, we can probably not say anything about graphics and soundtrack!

Your goal in Snake Pass is of course to collect the orbs, so you can go to the next world (and so on), but if this is the only imperative to go from level to level, you will also have the opportunity to collect blue bubbles (about 20) per level with 5 coins. Generally the parts are in more difficult accesses and you will need a little more technique and patience to recover them. Enough to give you a little more challenge. Note that all the worlds in which you will evolve are arranged in a vacuum, which means that very often, said pieces will not forgive you for failure, if you fall, you will have to start again from the last checkpoint. These checkpoints are arranged in the level and you will just have to pass over them to trigger them.

If the game is not very difficult, it requires a minimum of skill (which is not necessarily my case! ) and especially patience, your snake will be able to move in the water and of course on dry land. He will be able to cling to the bamboos arranged throughout the level to climb and allow him to recover coin, orb or bubble. I have very often fallen, because I wanted to go too fast, so you have to be patient and wrap yourself properly around the elements to be sure to be well hooked. The difficulty is increasing, and will require more technique as time goes on. Even the orbs will end up being much more complex to reach with some puzzles that are simple to perform but not necessarily easy to reach.

Snake Pass would eventually be more aimed at children, but even for adults, the game is very enjoyable to browse. It's rare, if not unique, to be able to play a snake in a platform game. The gameplay is simplistic, but well executed, the game is not too easy especially if you plan to do everything. 15 levels are proposed and they will be more or less long depending on your success and your speed. There is also a time mode to find out who is the fastest snake among all Snake Pass players. In conclusion, if you like platform games, and snakes, you will not be disappointed. Of course, it is not a masterpiece but it has the merit of offering a different and original gameplay in a colorful and cute world.
