Season 1 of The Night Of is available since March 2017 on DVD and Blu-Ray. The opportunity for us to dive back into the judicial world broadcast on the flagship HBO channel. Back on the eight episodes of the series as well as on the DVD experience.

The series

The Night Of tells the story of Naz, a young Pakistani who will find himself a prisoner of the American justice system. Indeed, following an evening too drunk, he will wake up next to a young woman stabbed to death. Everyone accuses him as he tries to give his truth. Alone in his fight, he will find unexpected support in a cheap but tenacious lawyer.

First of all, the series shines by its casting. Starting with John Turturro, a great American actor whose career is well established. As for Riz Ahmed (Naz), if his name does not ring a bell, you may have met him in Star Wars: Rogue One or in the series The OA. The rest of the cast is just as prestigious: Bill Camp (12 years a slave), Sofia Black of Elia (The Immigrant) or Afton Williamson (Banshee). Each actor plays his character wonderfully and gives credibility to this story.

As always at HBO, The Night Of has a very beautiful image. We have a dull image with sober colors (white, gray, black) that reminds us of the seriousness of the judicial system. There are also overframing effects that reinforce this suffocating atmosphere. This series is very realistic, there is no humor, no second degree. The viewer has little time to breathe, the series keeps him in suspense and is immersed with Naz in this confinement.

Eight breathtaking episodes that will mark you until the last image. The Night Of is therefore a series not to be missed under any circumstances!

The DVD

The DVD of The Night Of is presented in a dark and dirty looking sheath. A photo of Naz is pixelated and we have a highlight effect on the bars of the prison. The dominant colors of the series are present. Inside, we have three DVDs where the eight episodes are distributed.

If the series has an austere look, know that this is also the case for additional content. Apart from the varied choice of languages and subtitles, we have no additional content. No audio commentary, cut scenes and even less bloopers. In The Night Of, we stay serious until the end!
