According to Disney, Rogue One – A Star Wars Story would not be enough… fun!

The news had caused a stir: following the presentation of the first cut of Rogue One – A Star Wars Story, Disney had requested new shooting sessions to modify the first version of the film. But if we were already aware that this first montage was not to the taste of the producers, we did not yet know the reason. So what about the motivations for a more than expensive new shoot for Rogue One – A Star Wars Story

It seems (according to Deadline and the Hollywood Reporter) that these "reshoots" are implemented to brighten up the atmosphere of the film, considered too dark by the executives of the Disney studios. The Hollywood Reporter , however, says that Gareth Edwards' film would be solid and of quality, but that the tone of the story would have been considered too far from the atmosphere of the Original Trilogy and that of The Force Awakens. Gareth Edwards would have apparently taken at face value the war film atmosphere imposed by his subject and would therefore have implemented it 100%. This was not without worrying the Disney studios, fearing to alienate part of the audience because of the lack of lightness of the film.

This crisis on the set of Rogue One – A Star Wars Story is abominably symptomatic of the functioning of the Hollywood machinery: an all-powerful production that goes against the artistic approach of the director. This approach was why the production had initially chosen Gareth Edwards. It was a foregone conclusion that the director of the last Godzilla would offer us an atmosphere worthy of a great war film with interplanetary scope. But apparently the giant Disney seems to have had cold feet and is therefore relaunching a shooting session to lighten the atmosphere of the first spin-off on the universe of Star Wars.It should be noted that the production was intended to be as reassuring as possible. Indeed, she reportedly announced to the Hollywood Reporter that "This film is the purest prequel ever". "This will take place just before A New Hope and will take us to the ten minutes before the start of this classic of cinema. We must agree on the tone!"

A statement that is reassuring, but that will not be without irritating fans of the saga, eager to escape Manichaeism at Disney, to rather immerse themselves in the dark hours caused by the advent of the Empire. We can only hope that Rogue One – A Star Wars Story will not be too distorted and that Gareth Edwards ' vision will continue to predominate over the film.
