For its 4th season, the small gallery invites the 9th art to take place alongside the archaeological collections of the Louvre Museum. The exhibition will take place in the "Petite Galerie", the museum's artistic and cultural education space, arranged for the occasion in four rooms dedicated to the dialogue between archaeology and comics.

From September 26, the exhibition "Archaeology in bubbles" will offer visitors the opportunity to discover the profession of archaeologist in a fun way through comics.Throughout the exhibition, the public will be able to follow in the footsteps of the great archaeologists who were at the origin of the rediscoveries of ancient civilizations. The presence of comic strip excerpts (including Jul, Enki Bilal and Nicolas de Crécy) will also illustrate the great moments of the archaeologist's profession: discovering treasures buried for centuries, restoring them, classifying and interpreting them.

The four rooms of the route will represent four distinct themes:

  • The first room entitled "Artists and archaeologists" will be devoted to the question of drawing as a common tool for archaeologists and comic book authors.
  • The second room, "Archaeological Treasures", will offer a variation on the notions of discovery and treasure, illustrated by objects from the institution's collections.
  • The third room, "Classifying to Understand", will then discuss the methodology of archaeological research and the work done to build the universe of a comic book hero.
  • Finally, the tour will end with the theme "Interpreting and dreaming", which will emphasize the importance of dreams and imaginations in the work of both draftsmen and archaeologists.

In the continuity of this exhibition, the Louvre will continue its reflection on archaeology with two other events. An exhibition will be devoted in November to the collection of the Marquis Campana, followed in April 2019 by the exhibition "Forgotten Kingdom: The Heirs of the Hittite Empire" shedding light on the archaeological site of Tell Halaf, Syria.

An original and educational way to rediscover the great discoveries that were at the origin of the museum's collections and to introduce the youngest to the profession of archaeologist.
