The Danish filmmaker, renowned for his creative independence, recently affirmed during a public screening of The Neon Demon, his desire to shoot a superhero film.

The good thing about Nicolas Winding Refn is that the guy cultivates the art of secrecy and eclecticism like no one else. Between a thriller inspired by the 1980s (Drive), a mesmerizing and violent trip into the world of clandestine boxing (Only God Forgives) and a plunge into the carnivorous hell of fashion (The Neon Demon), we can not say that the Danish sieur has shown any real coherence. And that's good, since if we believe several media, the director could soon take the plunge and tackle the cinema of entertainment aka blockbuster. Indeed, interviewed by several American media during a public screening of The Neon Demon, Nicolas Winding Refn would have said he wanted to rub shoulders with superheroic cinema:

"Damn it, I'd love to do one. It would probably be a lot of fun but I don't know when it will happen. I appreciate my creative independence, but I'd love to do one of those big Hollywood movies that costs a lot of money and has a lot of fans running around with their phones and all their craziness."

Alas, the Danish director would have loved to make his debut filming the exploits of Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman. Lack of pot, Patty Jenkins and Zack Snyder have already taken care of it, leaving the Dane with only another well-known female character from the DC Comics universe:

"Which ones remain? Want to know which one I'd like to do? I want to do Batgirl. Let's get Warner to work on it."

In any case, this is a prospect that would kick us as the creative talent of the man would be able to bring a little freshness in a genre that is seriously starting to smell like the tree. In the meantime, you can admire his latest film, splendid by the way: The Neon Demon.
