Catherine de Medici will be the leader of the French nation in Sid Meier's Civilization VI !
Born into the Italian nobility, Catherine de Medici was married to the French King Henry II and ruled the country from 1547 until her husband's death in 1559. But his influence persisted afterwards as his three sons were all crowned kings during his lifetime.
His descendants ruled the France successively throughout a series of civil and religious wars. Despite these dangers, Catherine maintained the place of the French monarchy, first promoting a certain compromise with the Protestants, then being firmer against them. Catherine de Medici was one of the most powerful women in sixteenth-centuryEurope and a sovereign as cunning as she was formidable.
Catherine was an expert in espionage. Thanks to her network of ladies, dubbed " Flying Squadron" in Civilization VI, she can retrieve more diplomatic information about the civilizations she encounters. For each castle discovered, she gets an additional spy

Exclusive unit: Imperial Guard
This group of elite veteran soldiers was created by Napoleon in 1799. The Imperial Guard was better equipped than the other troops (equipment, rations). The guard was divided into three categories: the Old Guard, the Middle and the Young. She served Napoleon in all his wars, until the Battle of Waterloo. The Middle Guard retreated under the cries of "The Guard retreats!", the Old and the Young protected Napoleon, under the formidable cannon shots of the British and Prussian armies which reduced them to nothing.
The Imperial Guard receives a combat bonus when it is on the continent of its capital and illustrious General points for each victory.
Exclusive layout: Castel
This term "castel" refers to large country houses with vast lands. In the seventeenth century, the castle was an integral part of the French landscape even if later, most of the buildings were destroyed during the peasant revolts. The most famous castel that remains and was the favorite of Catherine de Medici is the castle of Chenonceau.
The castel must be built near a river and produces culture and special bonuses if it is next to the wonders.
Sid Meier's Civilization VI is scheduled for release on October 21, 2016 on PC.
