Season 2 of What We Do In The Shadows arrives very soon on our screens. The opportunity to present you the series that will make you forget the affronts that Hollywood may have done to the creatures of the night! Small precision: this series does not fall into the category "family comedy". Some scenes may shock a young audience.

What We Do In The Shadows, originally, a film…

What We Do In The Shadows (film released in 2014) is the project of two men: Taika Waititi (Thor Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit, Avengers Endgame) and Jermaine Clement (Flight of the Concords, Vaina). Their idea? Describe the daily life of four vampire roommates and downright losers. Glories of yesteryear who have failed in their mission to submit humanity to their powers. Thus, they must resolve to live in hiding and lead as normal a life as possible. Which is somewhat complicated when the sun's rays can reduce you to smoke. Or, that it is necessary for you to drink, from time to time, the blood of human beings. Let's be reassured right away: we are very far from Twilight. Here, no vampire shining in the night (or day) and dripping with silliness. The vampires of What We Do In The Shadows hide nothing from us of the less glorious aspects of their existence! That's the whole point of the project. The work is a "mockumentary" (mixture of the verb "mock" which means parody and the word "documentary"). This parody documentary, the process of which can be found in The Office or Modern Family, gives a work of fiction a realistic aspect, as if its subject were really the subject of an informative documentary. Waititi and Clement's film was a critical success. But remained in the shadow of popular recognition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAZEWtyhpes

The success of the series

After a string of critical and commercial successes as a director, Taika Waititi wanted to revive his project around vampires. Thus, always accompanied by his collaborator Jermaine Clement, the New Zealand director worked on a new format for What We Do In The Shadows : a TV series. This new format, which allowed them to renew their initial project and create a larger fanbase, was adopted by the American channel FX. In the casting, we discover talented actors but sometimes unknown to the public: Kayvan Novak (in the role of Nandor), Natasia Demetriou (Nadja), Mark Proksh (Colin) and Matt Berry (Laszlo). The latter will be a very familiar name for fans of IT Crowd or Toast of London. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGQChk9zGyQ&t=44s These new actors allowed the Waititi/Clement duo to write a new script around their characters. Four vampires, cohabiting in a Staten Island mansion, find themselves forced to try to conquer America and enslave human beings. But our vampires are far from being endowed with the qualities necessary for the success of such a mission… Self-centered, ridiculously narcissistic and lazy at will, these vampires will quickly realize their limits.

A highly anticipated season 2

Quickly, the series finds its audience and a second season is signed. It will be broadcast on Canal + tomorrow (April 20, 2020). We will find our narcissistic and clumsy vampires, as well as Guillermo (Harvey Guillen) their favorite familiar (whose very interesting origins we discovered at the end of season 1…). But we can also discover the appearances of Haley Joel Osment (6th Sense, A.I) which seems to have a very bloody role. It's a safe bet that Osment won't be the only celebrity guest participating in this season. Recall that in the first season of What We Do In The Shadows, a council of vampires was organized. We could see Wesley Snipes (unforgettable vampire in Blade) but also Evan Rachel Wood (queen of vampires in True Blood) or Tilda Swinton (who played a blood drinker in Only Lovers Left Alive). We are also waiting to find Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart, Lady Bird) who had played a young virgin whose transformation into a vampire, carried out by Nadja, had had a comic beginning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wAU2kcqZDk You can find season 1 of What We Do In The Shadows on Canal +. Season 2 will air from Monday, April 20, 2020.
