A few months ago, we told you that Martin Henderson was leaving Grey's Anatomy. Today, thanks to an exclusive interview with Hollywood Reporter, actress Ellen Pompeo reveals the underside of this departure!

The actress, who has just renewed her contract for two more seasons, has just given an unrestricted interview to The Hollywood Reporter. She reveals in particular the tense relations between her and Patrick Dempsey or the famous Doctor Mamour.

For me, Patrick [Dempsey] leaving the show [in 2015], was a watershed moment, for business. They could always use it as leverage against me – 'We don't need you; we have Patrick' – which they have been doing for years.I don't know if they did it to Patrick as well, because he and I never discussed our offers. There have been many times when I have sought to unite to negotiate, but it has never interested him.At one point, I asked for $5,000 more than him on principle, because the show is called Grey's Anatomy and I'm Meredith Grey. They didn't give them to me.And I could have left, but why didn't I?This is my series; I'm number one.I'm sure I felt what many of these other actresses feel: Why should I leave a large part because of a guy?You feel conflicted, but you think, "I'm not going to let a guy kick me out of my house."

Pompeo also spoke of her frustration at seeing Martin Henderson arrive so quickly in the cast so soon after Meredith was widowed.

So what does it look like when he [Patrick Dempsey] leaves the show?First of all, it looks like a spike in evaluation, and I had a giggle about it.But the truth is, the ink wasn't even dry on his exit papers before they rushed to a new guy.I was on vacation in Sicily, decompressing – it was a long working relationship and it was a tumultuous end and I needed a moment to relax with rosé – and they would call me and say, "What do you think of this guy? ? "What do you think of this guy? "And they send pictures.I thought, "Are you crazy? Why do you think you need to replace this person? I couldn't believe how quickly the studio and the network felt like they needed a penis in there. We brought Martin Henderson, but they didn't like the script, so it ended.

In November, co-writer Krista Vernoff dodged questions about Henderson's sudden departure, telling TVLine: "So many things go into decisions like this… What I can say is that I was really proud of the way we tell this story.I was really proud that we had a love triangle [with Meredith, Nathan and Megan] where women continually supported each other and no one ever tried to hurt each other. They put down roots for each other, they were grateful for each other and they cared for each other."

An interview that will have set the record straight with the Time 's Up movement, movement against sexism and sexual harassment.

Grey's Anatomy returns to ABC on January 18th!
